Milla Jovovich: “Every Cool Person Should Want To Live In Berlin”

This season, Milla Jovovich took over spokesmodel duties for the Mercedes Benz-sponsored Berlin fashion week from fellow catwalker Julia Stegner—ergo, the Miles Aldridge-shot ads of her all over town, lounging on a Benz in a kooky spiked Philip Treacy hat. As Jovovich told us in Berlin, she loves a good fashion week…especially since her adopted hometown of L.A. apparently isn’t always the hottest of spots. “There is nothing more interesting than fashion week,” she told us in Berlin. “I love being reunited with the fascinating, kooky, and brilliant people I’ve known for over 25 years working in fashion. I live in L.A. and I almost never go out. L.A. offers either the Oscars or some party at a local school. There is really nothing to do. I look to fashion weeks as a way to catch up with my friends.”

Jovovich, as it turns out, is a Berlinophile. “I lived here for six months when I filmed Resident Evil,” she continued. “I love it. I think every cool person should want to live here. I see all the celebrities wanting to come here eventually. My one problem with it was that we were working the whole time. We spent most of the time in the underground tunnels. It was very surreal and dark. But what I saw of the city, I love. It is just really young and full of creative energy.” About those underground tunnels—there are actually two highly competitive, slightly nerdy societies that research their history, like rival gangs of academics. Jovovich laughs: “I guess that as Berlin fashion week’s spokesmodel, I represent them, too.”
