Yea, Nay, Or Eh? Marion Hangs Loose

Marion Cotillard hit London last night for the world premiere of her new film Inception. The Christopher Nolan-directed thriller is serious stuff, but Cotillard played it nice and easy in a billowing, drop-hem dress from Thakoon’s pre-fall collection. The beachy shape and bold, colorful print pick up the Talitha Getty-gone-gypsetting vibe that was all over the Spring ’11 runways, but the leather trim injects a cool, New York edge. We wouldn’t call this look a total win—we don’t love the chunky black peep-toes and the layered necklaces, and full-press red-carpet glamour it ain’t—but we can definitely appreciate the need to stay cool in the July heat. What do you think? Do you like Cotillard’s loose look, or would you rather she stepped up her game?

The colors and the print of the dress are beautiful and could have made a nice contrast with her skin and hair, enhancing its beauty. Contrary to what might have happened, the asymmetrical model did not favor the proportion of her forms.

The print of this dress is fab! Unfortunately, this dress looks like a garbage bag/i could do this and i’m blind/school traffic police goes chic…
This would look 10x better on a leggy, tan, blog… but doesn’t everything!??

This would be a nay for me. I also don’t like the shoes and I don’t really think she’s got the legs for this dress but moreover she can do sophisticated looks, pretty looks, even sexy, but boho chic doesn’t become her.

She would have put it together with black cuff & black breathie sandals, summer, fresh colors even some purple or orangy reds on the wrist

The kind of stuff I would love to… be able to get away with. Perhaps now that a version has made it on a bona fide red carpet [gray-scale print with large red letters would do too], there is hope!

In three dimensions instead of two she must have looked irreducibly fine, but the graphic black trim seems designed to quirkily suit someone else. So many other cool, inspired summer dresses.
