Early Bird Special, Fashion Edition
November 29, 2010 3:11 pm
The reward for being the early bird, as the old expression has it, is the worm. But no one would blame you if you wanted a slightly more enticing prize. The new Closetista.com, which launches today, is here to oblige: Shop early and get goods from under-the-radar designers before the rest of the world catches on—and at a discount, too. The site, the brainchild of Web guru Mike LaRoque, the husband of fashion editor Jenny Feldman, a veteran of Glamour and Elle. Video interviews with designers are paired with limited-edition online sales of merchandise, often a full season before pieces are available in stores. For the launch, designs by Geren Ford (pictured), Dallin Chase, Jesse Kamm, and Liz Law are on offer, at prices lower than they will be once the wares hit stores. Better still, during the first week, ten percent of sales go to worthy charities: The Smile Train, MS Society, and Dress for Success.

What kind of “fashion” is this gray monstrosity by Geren Ford, whoever that is? Haven’t we had enough years of the mini, doesn’t it look like many of us are really tired of it. But mostly, what kind of “fashion design” does this signify? Is this an example of “Dress for Success”?
