Don’t call it a comeback. Tasha Tilberg may be associated with the nineties, when she rose to fame—she landed her first W cover in 1996, and signed on as a CoverGirl spokeswoman in ’97—but she’s been working steadily ever since. Even so, she’s shot to new prominence of late, as designers and casting directors have become enchanted anew with the runway beauties of an earlier era. The unconventional Canadian beauty, known for her scads of tattoos and a septum ring (how very Alexander Wang Spring 2011!), has, in the last year, walked for Reed Krakoff and Ann Demeulemeester, and just last week, hit the catwalk for Lanvin and H&M’s Haute Couture show in New York.
Tilberg’s devoted herself to music in recent years, and is hard at work on an album. Her latest gig—a promo video for the new e-commerce boutique L’Effrontée—takes advantage of both of her talents. “L’Effrontée,” according to co-owner and New York nightlife veteran Cristina Salazar, is French for “a truly rebellious, cheeky, city girl who pushes boundaries and refuses to accept the status quo—not a girly girl.” Tasha Tilberg to a (double) T, in other words. “She is edgy, yet feminine and fragile with this touch of masculinity that is perfect,” Salazar says. Like the accessories (from designers like Camilla Skovgaard, Angel Jackson, and Linda Farrow) that Tilberg is jamming in? They’re all available at L’Effrontée online, and at its pop-up shop in Nolita, opening next week.
L’Effrontée’s pop-up will be open from November 26 to December 31 at 181 Mott St., between Broome and Kenmare steets, NYC.
