Lea T. Walks The Walk
Celebrity casting is a mainstay of Brazil’s fashion weeks, and the country’s biggest supes—Gisele, Alessandra, and Adriana among them—often make for São Paulo when runway season comes around. This season, they were joined by a few more: Ashton Kutcher, who caused a mini-sensation when he walked the Colcci show yesterday, and the fashion world’s new favorite sensation, the transgendered model Lea T.
T. is no stranger to the camera—she shot to fame with a Givenchy campaign courtesy of her friend and boss Riccardo Tisci, posed nude for Paris Vogue, and shares the cover of the latest issue of Love (and a kiss) with Kate Moss—but she’s been less frequently on the runway. This weekend marked both her catwalk moment and her triumphant homecoming when she closed Alexandre Herchcovitch’s Fall 2011 Feminino show at São Paulo fashion week. Coming back to Brazil in the glare of the public eye may not have been easy—T. has spoken openly about her father, former soccer star Toninho Cerezo, and his disapproval of her—but the crowd at SPFW embraced her wholeheartedly. Following the show, at Herchcovitch’s after-party at the Fasano hotel, a passel of boldfacers, including Osklen designer Oskar Metsavaht, Cecilia Dean, and Michael Roberts, kept her company while Paulistas snapped photos and begged for autographs.
