Designer update

R.I.P. Charles Nolan

January 31, 2011  1:01 pm

Sad news from the weekend: On Sunday, American designer Charles Nolan, an alumnus of Bill Blass, Ellen Tracy, and Anne Klein, passed away following a fight with cancer. A stalwart Democrat who didn’t hesitate to bring his politics onto the catwalk—and his designs to political figures—Nolan in recent years ran his own shop in New York’s Meatpacking District. He was an early proponent of street casting at his New York runway shows, where everyone from New York City cops to Olympic swimmers to his friend Kerry Kennedy modeled his wares. Nolan was 53.

For more on Charles Nolan, see Women’s Wear Daily’s obituary. Some of Nolan’s recent collections can be seen here on Style.com.
