The New Class
Remember the heady thrill you got when a middle school teacher announced the arrival of a new transfer student? Well, that’s exactly how we feel about the crop of new faces promised each season. The countdown to NYFW has begun, and it’s only a matter of days before Fall show packages start rolling in. Who will be the next Arizona or Lindsey? Only time will tell, but for now, here’s a primer on the ones to watch next month.
A close runner-up for our Spring Top Ten list, 19-year-old Anais Pouliot (above) walked in 37 shows last season and has since had editorials in W and Vogue Nippon. The Canadian stunner with a Wixson-rivaling pout worked the pre-fall circuit like a pro. We’re willing to bet on a huge second season.
Saskia de Brauw (left) started modeling at 16 before quitting to go to art school. Now the 29-year-old Amsterdam native is back. She walked directional Spring shows like Balenciaga and Givenchy–where she’s become a house favorite (she starred in the latest ad campaign and pre-fall lookbook)–and can be found posing alongside Daphne Groeneveld in the February issue of Paris Vogue. COACD‘s Douglas Perrett summed it up nicely: “Saskia will kill it this season.”
A relative mystery until last week’s Alexander Wang ad campaign announcement, Aymeline Valade is now catching the attention of casting directors everywhere. A Balenciaga runway turn (she also posed for the pre-fall lookbook), Vogue Turkey cover, and a Craig McDean spread in the latest Interview indicates this Frenchwoman is on the fast track to supe-dom.
What, no Russians? Hardly. A cute name and even cuter face scored Pevek-born Juju Ivanyuk opening spots at Alexander McQueen and Celine. But the 18-year-old really skyrocketed during pre-fall, doing lookbooks for McQueen, Narciso Rodriguez, Philosophy, and Vera Wang. No wonder she was a shoo-in for today’s Christian Dior Haute Couture show. Check her out in Look 22.
