In Hollywood, It’s Ladies Night
Fresh from naming Katie Holmes as their 2011 WIF MaxMara Face of the Future earlier this week, Women in Film kept the momentum going with a bustling pre-ceremony circuit Friday night. The group, with a little help from MAC, held its fourth annual pre-Oscar cocktail party at the Soho House. Not even a torrential downpour could dampen the celebratory spirit of WIF’s president Cathy Schulman, who toasted this year’s female nominees. Fellow nominees—in the same category, no less—Melissa Leo and Amy Adams from The Fighter caught up with the film’s director, David O. Russell, while another Best Supporting Actress hopeful, True Grit‘s Hailee Steinfeld, milled nearby.
Halle Berry, the evening’s hostess (there with boyfriend Olivier Martinez), acknowledged that although the tone was celebratory, the struggles that women endure in Hollywood continue. “I have some friends who say, ‘I wish there were no such thing as Women in Film,’ ” Berry (left, with Adams) said. “But the truth is we have to come out and support each other and lift each other up, and we should be doing that forever and a day.”
