Going Green, Seeing Red

Last night in New York, Christie’s played host to Runway to Green at its Bid to Save the Earth event, an evening auction to raise funds for environmental charities. And what a runway it turned out to be: models like Karolina Kurkova, Jessica Stam, and Coco Rocha all took to the catwalk to strut in designer creations auctioned off for the good of the organization (and a few likeminded groups, such as the Central Park Conservancy, Conservation International, and Oceana). But if you missed the party, there’s still a chance to buy—and unlike most runways, this one wasn’t see now, shop later. Designers including Prada, Marc Jacobs, Alexander McQueen, Marni, and Balenciaga have all contributed Fall 2011 pieces to Net-a-Porter’s just launched Runway to Green sale, with a portion of proceeds going to the eco cause. This marks your first chance to get Fall 2011 wares, from Prada’s bright scarlet belted wool coat ($2,650) and trompe l’oeil Mary Jane boots ($1,500, above left) to Marc Jacobs’ floral-print silk dress ($995, above right). It’s a sale well worth ponying up for—but if you’re not quite as flush as all that at the moment, there’s an entry-level buy anyone can manage: a geek-chic digital Timex ($50) in the color of the moment—green.
