Holmes & Yang Channel Farrah And Jaclyn


Ever since the Oscars, power stylists have been the talk of Tinseltown. On the short list of influential names is Jeanne Yang, who was in town yesterday with her client and business partner Katie Holmes to preview the Fall collection from their co-designed Holmes & Yang line. On the sixth floor of Barneys, the duo talked textiles, which for Fall included buttery leathers, soft suedes, and silk chiffons. “The feel of the clothing is important to us,” Holmes told “It’s for women to be comfortable in their outfits, but also we both have daughters and their hands are always touching our clothing.” Ergo, dinner jackets and trousers are fully lined in four-ply silk (including a standout cream pantsuit with caramel leather accents, $2,950 for the jacket and $995 for the pant), a black trench in notoriously difficult gazar ($3,480) was elegantly rendered with leather piping and elongated elbow patches (a line signature), all handmade in Brooklyn. “We were looking for quality and we came across this amazing factory,” Yang said. “We looked at Italian manufacturers too, but the Brooklyn company blew us away with their workmanship.”

The collection also had Charlie’s Angels in mind, although with a French twist, and dabbled in bright color and transparency. A backless cropped black suede vest ($960) recalled Jaclyn Smith, Yang’s favorite, while a see-through fuchsia silk blouse with red cuffs and collar ($945) might have been more Farrah Fawcett, Holmes’ preferred Angel. Naturally, there were also a few red-carpet offerings, including a backless black gown with cap sleeves and crisscross pleating on the bodice. “You see this shape?” Holmes asked, pointing to where the pleating formed a V at the waist. “It makes your waist appear super-slim. We’re all about highlighting the best parts about women, not subtracting from them.”
