Billy Reid, Collab-Happy

Billy Reid was in New York last night to toast the debut of his new collection for J.Crew, the just deserts of his CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund win. That collection, including linen shirts, a chambray suit, a slouchy cotton cardigan, and a Grand Isle polo, is now available at “It’s just so much synergy from the beginning,” Reid told last night at the event. “The way they approached the project, they said bring us a dozen or so of your signature type pieces, things that really speak to your collection. Then they would say, ‘These feel right.’ It felt natural.”

But the J.Crew collection isn’t the only collaboration of the moment for the designer, who’s also collaborated in the past with Stetson on hats. Inspired by his own beloved, raggedy vintage K.Swiss sneakers (worn almost to death, as a Twitpic from Reid amply illustrates), Reid also worked with the label on three colors of a casual, low-top sneak, above. They’ll retail for $95 when they hit stores and the Web this Friday.
