Kelly Wearstler Brings Her Vibe Online

April 14, 2011  3:25 pm

It used to be that if you wanted a taste of Kelly Wearstler’s eclectic, antique-chic aesthetic, you’d have to make your way to the seventh floor of Bergdorf Goodman, travel to the Viceroy Hotel, or find a palatial residence that befits her signature decor. But in a concerted effort to reach a larger audience, Wearstler’s got one more trick up her sleeve. Starting today, the interior design doyenne’s new Web site goes live, including her blog, My Vibe, My Life; a special e-commerce is set to follow on August 1. “While Bergdorf Goodman has had the exclusive for four years, we’ve had the time to make sure the products were perfect. Now we have a great sense of what the favorites are,” Wearstler says of the strategic expansion. “We’re just trying to make the collection a little more accessible.” Add to that her recently debuted ready-to-wear label, for which she’s now prepping a Resort collection inspired by “raw, earthy vibes, tribal prints, and South American influences,” and you’ve got the makings of a lifestyle brand. It’s all unified by her attention to detail and appreciation for craftsmanship. “Everything is truly handmade and every piece isn’t made by the same fabricator. They’re made in eight to ten different countries from distinct hands to make them original and not mass-produced,” she says of her home line. Expansion is on her mind eventually, but for now, her plate is full with fashion and the Web. “I’d love to get into some other product categories, but I’m just learning that this is such a different animal. I’d like to take it slow and steady and make sure I just get it right.”
