Yigal Azrouël’s Fashion Week Diary

In the lead-up to New York fashion week, designers go through hundreds of behind-the-scenes preparations to arrive at the completed show. This NYFW, we’ve sweet-talked a few of them into giving us an exclusive peek behind the curtain as they cast, score, style, and ready their presentations. First up: Yigal Azrouël.

“First day of women’s casting with Natalie Joos. I really enjoy this process because, when seeing the clothing on the models, it gives me inspiration for the collection.”

“Exchanging ideas with stylist Julia von Boehm about how to mix different textures and colors of the clothing.”

“Putting the run of show is very important to me so that I can really tell a story to the audience.”

“Get your shoes on with a splash of color! This season the collection really uses a lot of bold, fresh colors. We mix acid pastels and neutrals to create a modern look.”

“Heidi never overlooks the details when styling a look. She pays close attention to the color, stitching, and composition to make the strongest look.”

“Editing the board to pick the pieces and looks that we will show.”

“Stylist Tom Van Dorpe working with the looks model to style the looks for the runway. He spends a lot of time with each garment to make sure the full look works together.”
