New York’s Meatpacking District was brimming with a pair of dueling bashes last night. While Florence Welch serenaded the likes of Kanye West, Riccardo Tisci, and Emma Roberts with songs from her new album at the Boom Boom Room for the Interview and Belvedere fête, another songstress was down the street at Double Seven hosting a show of her own. Surprise guest Madonna made a rare appearance for filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar’s after-party celebrating his new movie, The Skin I Live In.
While Madonna held court in the dimly lit room with Parker Posey, Steven Klein, Debi Mazar, and Debbie Harry nearby, Antonio Banderas (who makes an appearance in the 1991 documentary Madonna: Truth or Dare) and his co-star Elena Anaya hung out with friends in a corner booth. “I am just enjoying life, having fun,” he said. (That’s what most guests were doing. After watching the hybrid horror-thriller film at the Cinema Society screening earlier in the night, they were more than ready for a DeLeon drink or two). Anaya added, “We first met in Pedro’s house, and it took us like a half a minute to be the friends we are today.”
Aside from buzzing about Madonna, guests were gushing on someone, or rather, something else: Banderas’ outfit. Of his denim-on-denim pairing, he said, “These jeans are trash, they have holes in them, it’s just a denim shirt, with my boots made in Mexico especially for me.”
