The 12 Days of Christmas: Day 8

Beneath my blazer beats a heart that longs for sweatpants. The demands of a career in fashion include a tailored wardrobe—especially during review season, as we make the pre-fall rounds—but over the holidays, I don’t mind a little backslide. Lynne Hiriak, the knit guru who’s had a hand in the knit offerings of many of your favorite designers and is the force behind the under-appreciated Cardigan New York line, has just released a new collection created as if with me in mind. A.C. 1896, named for Athens, the site of the first modern Olympic Games, takes slubby sweats and upgrades them to French terry knit cashmere. There’s a kick-around pair of sweatpants, a zip-front hoodie, and my favorite, a crewneck sweatshirt. I appreciate athleticwear that refuses, as I do, to go to the gym.
