Haute Joaillerie For Hollywood

February 15, 2012  10:29 am

Fresh from its debut at the Couture show in Paris, Louis Vuitton’s newest L’Ame du Voyage bijoux collection by high jewelry artistic director Lorenz Bäumer landed in Los Angeles last night for an exclusive preview. “This is the city of lights and Paris is the City of Light. Los Angeles has always been very appreciative of jewelry,” Bäumer relished, arriving with his new L’Escale à Paris collection strategically, just in time for celebrity stylists and editors to check it out before the climax of awards season. “Our world is a very visual world, and at the top of that visual world are all the incredible movies and the imagery and the fantasy that is created in L.A.”

As for their place on the red carpet? “I’m creating jewelry and I always like to say it’s about dreaming, making people dream, and somehow this perfectly links with what happens in Hollywood.” The L’Escale à Paris collection was designed with Paris in mind (of course). Inspired by Bäumer’s interpretation of the city’s most iconic sites, each piece is informed by his sensory experiences. The Champs-Élysées is conveyed as an image of Paris at night, with red traffic lights on one side with white baguettes running down the length of the other side of the necklace. His other pieces, in finely crafted gestures, convey the fountain of the Place de la Concorde with a light-reflecting tassel of sapphires and diamonds and emeralds that signifies a walk along the Tuileries. Bäumer’s conviction as a designer remains creating jewelry for “special women who live all their different lives,” which seems apropos of the Oscars’ leading ladies and their many roles.
