The Best Behind The Best-Dressed
“Styling is totally like when you’re dating a guy,” said Jessica Paster at yesterday’s inaugural 25 Most Powerful Stylists luncheon (co-sponsored by The Hollywood Reporter and Jimmy Choo) at L.A.’s Soho House. “You have to have chemistry.”
Paster, who made number 17 on the list, along with the likes of list toppers Kate Young, Leslie Fremar, and Petra Flannery, has proven that she’s got that special touch with her clients, a group that includes Emily Blunt, Felicity Jones, and Bridesmaids‘ Ellie Kemper. “I usually get intimidated at fittings,” said Kemper, who was wearing a blue and white silk cocktail dress by Peter Pilotto. “But Jessica knows how to make me feel comfortable.” The chemistry is so good between some of the stylists and their clients, they often finish each other’s sentences. When Zoe Saldana forgot the maker of the lace sheath she was sporting, her stylist Flannery—who also counts Claire Danes and Emma Stone as clients—stepped in to save the day. “Alexis Mabille!” she answered.
As for the whereabouts of Hollywood’s most powerful stylist, Rachel Zoe (number one on last year’s list), she wasn’t in attendance at yesterday’s luncheon because the new mom and Bravo star has become too big to rank. Zoe former assistant Brad Goreski (who now styles the likes of Jessica Alba and Demi Moore) made the cut this year at number 20.
