Simoens Out At Leonard

Just one season after Maxime Simoens signed on as creative director at Leonard, the designer and the label confirmed earlier reports that they are parting ways in an official statement released this morning. When spoke to the young French designer, who also shows his own namesake ready-to-wear line during Couture, the day he was appointed, he said of Leonard, “It was a bit old, in my opinion. I really want to give it sophistication and modernity.” His debut efforts were certainly for a younger set—his Fall collection included belted jackets and fitted cocktail dresses. As for his successor, WWD reports today that “according to sources, Raffaele Borriello, co-founder of the Paris label Requiem, is expected to be named Leonard’s next designer.”
