Robert Marc’s The Spot

“This latest project is really the best expression of what’s going on with the brand,” said Robert Marc of his new boutique, opening today on Madison Avenue and 88th Street. The eyewear designer, who received the 2011 Visionary ACE (Accessories Council Excellence) Award, launched his first New York shop in 1981 and has been expanding ever since (this is his eighth store in the city). Marc was happy to report that business is particularly booming this year—the company’s sales have increased 30 percent. The 600-square-foot space was conceived by architect and interior designer S. Russell Groves, a good friend of Marc’s who recently completed the Tiffany & Co. flagship in Shanghai. “It was a thrill to work with someone I’m close with and admire, but it can be dangerous because you want to keep the friendship intact and not let work get in the way,” Marc told Style.com. “We really examined the mix of materials in our glasses—the acetate and metals on the hinge—and tried to bring that out in the decor, which has a midcentury modern aesthetic.”

Aside from looking like something out of Mad Men, this outpost offers more display space than his other spots, which Marc is using to highlight his colorful Deep Sea Waters collection and RMX (Robert Marc extension) range. Here, Style.com has a first look inside the store.
