A Roman Holiday, With a Pit Stop in London
Last night, Lulu Frost’s Lisa Salzer joined up with Amanda Ferry to host an intimate cocktail soiree at retailer Matches Fashion’s headquarters. It was there that Salzer presented her Resort ’14 wares, as well as her recently launched men’s accessories range George Frost, to the London set. “The men’s line is named after my grandfather and actually co-designed with my boyfriend, [ballet dancer] Marlon Taylor-Wiles, and Jon Sneden of Victory Group. It’s inspired by American heroes from World War II and their loved ones waiting for them at home. That’s why we called the collection Love and Luck,” Salzer told Style.com.
A bracelet with beading in Morse code patterns spelled out “I love you,” and engraved Victory cuffs, as well as a necklace of real grenade pull pins, embraced the theme.
On the other end of the spectrum, the Resort collection, titled Roman Holiday, was extremely feminine. Encrusted in glass and beads, the pieces did indeed recall Audrey Hepburn’s rebellious, regal character from the film of the same name. Also on display were the designer’s 100 Year necklaces. “Basically, I collected little bits from each decade over the past hundred years, like pieces of Bakelite from the twenties or Czech crystals from the thirties. Then I put it all together, so you are actually wearing history, but in a very modern [way].” So where does she find these antique materials? “I source them from all over—from estate sales, from my travels. But really, I have lost entire days to eBay. It’s amazing what you can unearth from there.”
