The Next Big Thing: Novis, Spring ’14
Everyone knows their Marcs from their Calvins. But as fashion month kicks into gear, we’ll be spotlighting the up-and-coming designers and indie brands whose names you’ll want to remember.
Label: Novis by Jordana Warmflash
Need to know: Over the past year and a half or so, Novis designer Jordana Warmflash has built up a following for her whimsical, vintage-inspired silhouettes done in modern fabrications. And starlets including Morgan Saylor, Mickey Sumner, and Julia Garner turned up at the label’s Spring presentation on Friday to support the up-and-comer. Inspired by midcentury modern architecture and furniture, Warmflash showed a slightly retro, geometric “map” print on tailored DB topcoats and vests as well as on an on-trend cropped bustier top and matching full skirt. She further articulated the linear concept with Tetris-like color-blocked intarsia knit dresses and sweet A-line shorts featuring a graphic grid pattern. Elsewhere, Warmflash dove into high-tech materials like a spongy honeycomb mesh, which she whipped up into a sunny yellow cap-sleeve gown with a peekaboo sheer skirt—it was a definite standout.
She says: “I was thinking about what the aerial view of an Eames house would look like and turned it into a pattern that reminds me of a Technicolor floor plan,” said Warmflash of this season’s print.
Where to find it: American Two Shot in New York, Satine in L.A., and United Arrows in Japan.
