Rachel Roy Closes Up Shop

MOMA Film Benefit Presented by CHANELAfter months of rumors swirling that Rachel Roy was searching for new ownership, WWD reports today that the designer is closing her business. The Jones Group held a 50 percent stake in the business and has no plans to produce Roy’s Fall ’14 collection, which debuted in New York this past February. It marked the tenth anniversary of her eponymous line.

Roy recently relocated from New York to Los Angeles with her family, which we suspect is the driving factor behind the news. At our Fall ’14 appointment with the designer, she said, “What, really, do we have to do other than what’s right for ourselves?”

Roy told WWD that she plans to finance the business herself in the future, but details have not been confirmed. The Jones Group will, however, continue to produce the RACHEL Rachel Roy contemporary collection for Macy’s.
