In London, a Pair of German-Flavored Fetes

The Germans let loose in London last night with a pair of playful parties and accessories. First up was the launch of the München Cute Monsters limited backpack, celebrating the impending World Cup, courtesy of the little label that could: MCM. Defying all odds, the German-Korean brand has carved out a position in the luxury accessories category with its super-pricey cartoon and stud-festooned pieces. And it’s collected fans like Rihanna and Beyoncé along the way. At a wild party at MCM’s Sloane Street flagship last night, Brazilian flamenco dancers twerked away at the door (and stopped traffic), while Lily Allen, who can never get enough of a great bag, spun a set. Inside, guests ogled the backpack, which featured Pop Art characters Viktor & Viktoria rendered in the colors of the Brazilian flag.

Down the road, My Theresa, too, invited the fashion set out for a night of fun. The online retailer teamed up with Anya Hindmarch to commemorate their friendship with a very special memento: a limited-edition version of Hindmarch’s best-selling Marano clutch, which will launch exclusively on mytheresa.com next month. At an intimate dinner at the Royal Academy of Art, the pair introduced the clutch that truly sums up their relationship, seeing as the bag is customized with a smiley face. Alexa Chung, Daisy Lowe, Elisabeth von Thurn und Taxis, Hanneli Mustaparta, and My Theresa buying director Justin O’Shea (wearing a smiley-face tie) sat among sculptures of nudes and torsos. Naturally, O’Shea toasted his great friend. “We can’t get enough of Anya Hindmarch, and neither can our customers. Her happy take on fashion reminds us that fashion, above all, can be—and should be—fun. Otherwise, what’s the point of it all?”
