Dame Viv Joins the Mile-High Club, Sartorially Speaking

We aren’t the only ones nostalgic for the days of glamorous, dressed-up air travel. The Telegraph reports that Virgin Atlantic tapped Vivienne Westwood to reimagine its flight staff uniforms, and we’re thinking other airlines should follow suit. While Dame Viv had to keep the look somewhat traditional, her attention to detail makes a significant difference. Instead of boxy, shapeless jackets, the new crimson blazers are nipped at the waist, and pencil skirts are flatteringly tapered. Blouses have high collars and ruffles, negating the need for those staid silk scarves. The double-breasted coats have a slight cocoon shape so they can be worn buttoned-up or draped open. And perhaps the most noticeable “punk” influence is the red pump, which features Westwood’s signature hourglass heel and comes in a range of heights. Passengers might have to start elevating their sartorial game to keep up.
