Metail Kind of Re-Creates Cher Horowitz’s Computerized Wardrobe

In a somewhat brilliant marketing ploy, virtual wardrobe app Metail is claiming to have made Cher Horowitz’s computerized Clueless wardrobe a reality. Have they? Not really. The program allows you to create an accurate digital body double so you can try on and buy clothes available on Metail’s website—though the wares on offer, like a flimsy baby blue polka-dot skirt—are hardly comparable to those in Miss Horowitz’s Alaïa-laden closet. And it’s worth noting that several e-tail sites, including, have similar apps to help shoppers determine their size. But anyway, the Clueless connection here comes into play via a contest Metail has launched, which asks consumers to sift through items that are Cher-esque (e.g., plaid jackets, kicky skirts, and cardigans) and then #ShareYourCher (that is, your look) via social media. The mastermind behind the best getup will win £500 worth of “fashion prizes.” Will that buy you one of Cher’s Alaïa frocks? As if. But it’s a start.
