This month at the Fall ’13 Couture shows, a string of designers skipped the strapless cut and instead embraced a crisscross or strip of fabric just above the heart. “The cross-body neckline is a modern look at Couture,” stylist Jessica de Ruiter explains. “It allows for a flash of skin despite the dress being quiet, covered with long sleeves, or classic in its silhouette.”
At Atelier Versace, Donatella deftly proved her hand at Couture (having returned to show again in Paris only a year and a half ago) with a striking body-con number featuring open panels, which, to de Ruiter’s point, revealed nothing and everything all at once. Subtle seduction appeared at Bouchra Jarrar, too, where the designer paired the cross-my-heart neckline with menswear separates, tempering its overt sex appeal with trousers. And Alexandre Vauthier brought a new draped take to the trend, artfully crossing the fabric over the chest while still leaving plenty of skin on display. The design even made its way across the Atlantic, landing on Catherine Zeta-Jones at New York’s Red 2 premiere. She donned a revelatory Michael Kors (from Fall ’13, no less) that kept the trend on track despite New York’s near-triple-digit weather.

Louis Vuitton is not the only one on a high-fashion jewelry kick. Versace has announced the launch of an Atelier jewelry collection this Sunday at the Italian brand’s Couture show in Paris. The range includes 16 hand-sculpted rings made of precious stones from diamonds to sapphires. “As a designer and collector of fine jewelry, I have always wanted to offer the same quality of craftsmanship in jewelry as we offer with the Atelier Versace fashion collection,” said Donatella Versace. It sure pays to have designer friends. Newlywed Margherita Missoni made her first outing as a married woman at the Missoni menswear show in Milan, carrying a transparent, pearlized bag by Paco Rabanne. The bag was a gift from the designer, who crafted the piece just for Missoni. [Vogue U.K.]

Downtown, the toast continued with the fourth annual Remember the Time Michael Jackson Tribute Party hosted by Andre Harrell and Richie Akiva. [Page Six]

Where Angelina goes, the red carpet follows. It’s been scant months since Jolie bared her now-famous leg in Atelier Versace at the Academy Awards—the leg that launched a thousand tweets and at least one Twitter account—but hipbones and acres of thigh made bold appearances last night at the “East Coast Oscars,” the Met gala. Gisele Bündchen made the leg-jut her own in Givenchy Haute Couture, as did Anja Rubik in impossibly slit Anthony Vaccarello. The lesson: Make a statement if you can pull it off, but this is not a look for mere mortals. (There’s a reason “super” is typically appended to “model” in their titles.) Do not try this at home—you could pull something.
