With a mere two seasons under her ready-to-wear belt, Kelly Wearstler is already poised to take her design empire one step further. She just opened the doors to her very first retail outpost in West Hollywood. “You walk in, and it’s an experience,” Wearstler explained behind the two opulent doors that open to the designer’s new 2,800-square-foot world.
Much like the ethos that has become emblematic of her brand, the space is a study in contrasts: Dark leather meets the natural light, raw wood floors play off of polished copper glaze, and hand-painted silks pair delicately against the sculpture and art placed throughout. “There’s a refinement and a rawness in everything I do, the rawness of the floor and the refinement of the columns. The same thought goes into the raw silks that I use and the refined treatments that I use on them.”
Wearstler conceptualized and conceived of the store from start to finish, from architecture to product, making the near two-year project an overwhelming labor of love. Inspired to pull all of her products together under one roof, she said that her impetus was clear: “It’s having one voice and it’s applying it to all the different mediums that I work in.” They’re all displayed here, from her Bergdorf-bound Bauble Boxes to her ready-to-wear, signature tees with furniture, and decor for the home, all of which are available for purchase. “We’ll just play with new things at the office—located conveniently right up the street—and we’ll bring it into the store and just see how people respond to it.”
Kelly Wearstler is now open at 8440 Melrose Ave., L.A., www.kellywearstler.com.
