The Pioneers Party
“I first went to a Bono concert when I was pretty young with my dad,” Neil Blumenthal, who co-designs Warby Parker with David Gilboa, told Style.com last night at a party for Bono and Ali Hewson’s co-founded clothing line, Edun. “It was kind of surreal to work with him, but at the same, you realize he’s just a normal guy.”
The Warby Parker designers, along with a host of do-gooding guys, including jewelry designer Waris Ahluwalia and chef Marcus Samuelsson, were hand-selected by Bono and Hewson to front Edun’s Fall ’11 menswear campaign. Last night, the “pioneers” convened in Harlem at Samuelsson’s Red Rooster comfort food restaurant to celebrate, with the likes of Michael Stipe, Julie Gilhart, and Loomstate’s Scott Mackinlay Hahn on hand.
“It’s nice to be in a new area and not at Lincoln Center,” one guest said to Hewson, with Bono standing nearby. Two people who couldn’t make it up 125th Street last night were Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale—good friends of Bono and Hewson. “Gwen is not in town because she is recording her album right now, and Gavin would normally be here, but he likes tennis a lot, so the U.S. Open won out.” Would Hewson ever consider teaming up with the rock star designer? “That would be amazing to do an Edun collab with her—Gwen is the real deal.”
The Next Dimension Of Miranda Kerr, The Perfect Cuff For Suedeheads, Closets Of The Rich And Fabulous, And More…
Are we seeing more Miranda Kerr than usual? Actually, with the Australian Angel’s new Steven Meisel-shot Vogue Italia cover (pictured), we are—it’s the first fashion mag in 3-D! [Vogue Italia]
Louis Vuitton’s “Core Values” ad campaign soldiers on with three new stars: Bono, wife Ali Hewson, and (gasp!) some non-LV apparel. Hewson and Bono wear items from their eco-friendly (and LVMH-owned) Edun line in the new shots, along with Vuitton’s own goods (and the first-ever made-in-Africa Vuitton piece—the dangling charm hanging off Hewson’s bag). Does anyone need a Tom Binns cuff emblazoned with the complete lyrics to the Smiths’ “How Soon Is Now?” Probably not. But are we glad Racked turned it up? Absolutely. [Racked]

A Mad-Off At The Met Ball, Sex‘s Secrets, And More
News about the Met ball continues to pour in: It’ll be a battle of the Mad women, when Stefano Pilati brings January Jones and Tommy Hilfiger brings Christina Hendricks. The redhead will be in good company; Hilfiger is also said to have Mick Jagger and L’Wren Scott, John Currin, Zoe Kazan, Peter Som, and Jimmy Fallon at his table. Michael Kors goes for the catwalkers, hosting Carolyn Murphy, Natasha Poly, Chanel Iman, and former model/actresses Brooke Shields and Diane Lane, and Ralph Lauren will sit with Taylor Swift, Jessica Biel, and Justin Timberlake. Chez YSL—Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé’s apartment, that is—is on the market. $31.4 million buys you a library, a music room, a gym, and plenty of mirrors. [Hint Mag]
The latest addition to Louis Vuitton’s stable of “Icons” for its heritage ad campaign? If the rumors are to be believed, Bono. Coincidentally (or not), Vuitton parent LVMH recently acquired Bono and wife Ali Hewson’s eco-friendly Edun label. [WWD]
More from the Sex and the City 2 front: For her first appearance onscreen, SJP wears (gasp!) Halston. Costume designer Pat Field also had to contend with the Middle Eastern prohibition on exposed shoulders when working on the Abu Dhabi-set film. [L.A. Times via Racked]
And speaking of SATC2, its stars have signed multimillion-dollar contracts not to reveal plot secrets. “I’ve signed my life away to say I won’t tell. I thought: ‘You have got to be kidding! This isn’t state secrets, it’s the f****** script for a movie!” said Samantha, er, Kim Cattrall. (Throw in a couple f******s and it can be hard to tell the difference.) [Vogue U.K.]
Beautiful Day For Bono And Bernard?
Is Edun—the eco-conscious clothing line of Ali Hewson, Bono‘s wife—in talks with LVMH? CEO Bernard Arnault declared the dealings “top secret,” which means they’re so on. [WWD]
Is Michelle piling on more Tom Binns? Last night’s Kennedy Center celebration would mark the third time (according to our presidential accessory tracker) Mrs. O has opted for the irreverent Irishman. Love that she keeps the clothes classic and the jewels unusual. [HuffPo]
With most industries slashing jobs like Biba hemlines, it was only a matter of time before designers with eponymous lines and gigs at major fashion houses would have to focus on one or the other. As long we get our Tisci somehow. [WWD]
“I looked like an evil mermaid and felt as if I was walking with a crotch full of staples.” Firsthand account of wearing man leggings, or “meggings,” is as frightening as intended. [The Guardian]
