J.Lo’s L.A. Lunch

-------

Not all the fashion action is happening at Lincoln Center and Milk Studios this week. Yesterday, Gucci’s Frida Giannini was honored at UNICEF’s inaugural Women of Compassion Luncheon in L.A. before a crowd that included Camilla Belle, Mary J. Blige, and lensman Patrick Demarchelier.

Jennifer Lopez, now starring in the ads for Gucci’s children’s collection alongside twins Max and Emme, was on hand to present the designer with her award. “We actually met when I was about to pop, maybe two weeks before I gave birth at the big Malawi fundraiser she did with Madonna,” Lopez (left, with Giannini) told Style.com. “Every child in the world, in essence, could be yours,” she went on. “It makes you want to do things and work toward helping in any way you can, in every way you can.”

Giannini, for her part, stayed in town for the Grammys, then headed back to Milan. With less than two weeks before her Fall show, she dropped some hints about her impending collection. “You will see an explosion of color, which is very unusual for a Fall collection.”

Yea, Nay, Or Eh? Belle Of The Ball

-------

It was (almost) all YSL, all the time at the Met last night, where house CEO Valerie Hermann hosted the Metropolitan Opera’s gala premiere of Armida. Its star diva, Renée Fleming, wore Saint Laurent, as did Maggie Gyllenhaal, Patricia Clarkson, and Ginnifer Goodwin, but our vote for the night’s best dressed goes to the young actress Camille Belle, who shined in a tiered muslin gown from YSL Edition Soir (the label’s non-runway collection). She finished off her look with strappy YSL patent heels and a few choice jewels from Cartier. Black tie can be a tricky proposition for Hollywood’s younger stars, but Belle’s no newbie to the red carpet (or classical music, it turns out—she grew up on Mozart). We’re singing her praises. Are you?

Yea, Nay, Or Eh: Camilla Belle In Alexander McQueen

-------

Camilla Belle certainly caught our eye when she showed up at the L.A. premiere of 2012 in a ruffled and crystallized Alexander McQueen dress (look 26 from Spring 2010) accessorized with Cartier jewels. Minus the alien makeup and the insanely high platform shoes, the effect is much softer, dare we say sweet. What do you think of the look? Are you missing the prosthetics, platform booties, and Princess Leia-on-acid hair?

Fashion Fund-ers Connect With The Hollywood Set

-------

The CFDA and Vogue assembled a starry crowd for a Fashion Fund fashion show sponsored by Frédéric Fekkai at the Chateau Marmont on Friday afternoon. Diane Kruger, M.I.A., Jessica Alba, and Camilla Belle all gathered in the hotel’s secluded courtyard to take in looks from contenders for the annual prize like Sophie Theallet, Gary Graham, and Ohne Titel’s Flora Gill and Alexa Adams. “I am so inspired right now and saw so many things that I want,” Eva Mendes told us. “I have an eye for design, but making clothes has never interested me—I leave that to the real professionals.” Like newly minted CFDA member and front-row mate Mary-Kate Olsen? The Fashion Fund winner will be announced two weeks from today, at a ceremony on November 16.

Yea, Nay, or Eh: Lace Belle

-------

For evening, or really for any time of the day, white lace is a gamble. All those Madonna circa Like a Virgin and, worse yet, schlocky bridal connotations are tough to shake. But Camilla Belle made nice work of it last night in Beverly Hills at the Rodeo Drive Walk of Style, which honored another elegant beauty, Princess Grace. Strictly speaking, it wasn’t lace proper but rather white tulle with a lace-patterned embroidery, judiciously trimmed with feathers on the sleeves and hem, from Marchesa that Belle wore. The actress offset any potential frou with minimal makeup and simple accessories—black strappy sandals and ivory teardrop earrings. We say Belle: 1; White Lace: 0. What do you think of Belle’s lacy look?
