Diana On Display

As if anyone needed a reminder, before there was Kate Middleton, there was Princess Diana, who became a style icon the minute she stepped out in that David Emanuel black strapless gown only ten days after her engagement to the Prince of Wales. The world will get a glimpse of her famous frocks once more when five of her dresses go on display on March 26 to mark a $19 million revamp of Kensington Palace (done for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the upcoming
London Olympics).

The Diana exhibition, WWD reports, will highlight the Princess of Wales’ major fashion moments. The dresses, some of which are going on display in the U.K. for the first time, will include the infamous black taffeta Emanuel gown, two Catherine Walker dresses (one cream and one fuchsia), a black Versace dress, and a cream and white Bellville Sassoon cocktail dress.

The secret to success for the new European collections? According to the IHT‘s Suzy Menkes, boldness. “Who dares, wins,” Menkes pronounces, and accordingly, loves Jil Sander (left) and Marni. [IHT]

Topshop is set to open its second U.S. store: The brand will bow in Chicago late next spring. That should help Windy Cityites weather the long, cold winter, but the brand has aspirations for sunnier climes, too—it’s reportedly investigated a location in Miami. [WWD]

CK One is about to be CK Many. Calvin Klein has announced that the iconic fragrance (eau de your editor for the entirety of seventh grade, but he digresses) is expanding into a full lifestyle brand, with jeans, swim, intimates, and more. Get ready for the teenage world order. [Vogue U.K.]
