Yay, Nay, Or Eh? Charlize Theron, Flying High

Flying the friendly skies lost most of its glamour around the time of shoe scanning, but that doesn’t make it acceptable to turn up in a sweatsuit and trainers—especially if you’re angling for an upgrade. Take a cue from Charlize Theron, who managed to look polished after a half-day journey from LAX to Charles de Gaulle (which, we hear from Just Jared also included a two-hour delay and an extended wait at baggage claim). A trench coat is an ideal topper when commuting between two climates, while a beret and wraparound shades hide any evidence of a long nap. Toss your belongings in an oversized leather tote—Theron’s is Dior—and you could pass for a jet-setter. What do you think? Would you turn up for your flight in a similar look, or do you proudly (and comfortably) flaunt your favorite fleece?

The End of The Stuart Era, How To Rough It (Or Just Look Like You Do), And More…

Collective sigh, please: Gossips are reporting that former Dior spokeswoman Charlize Theron and her partner of nine years, Stuart Townsend, have called it quits. We can’t help wondering who the poor girl will take to the Oscars now. (Our guess? Absolutely any guy she wants.) [NY Daily News]

New York magazine writes the latest chapter in the mountain-man ethnography with its complete guide to the “Urban Woodsman.” From where to buy your vintage Red Wings (J.Crew) to where to buy your decorative ax (Best Made Co.), they’ve got you covered. For finding actual woods to beat your chest in, though, you’re on your own. [NY Mag]

Bloomingdale’s opens in Dubai, with all the over-the-top amenities you’d expect: a three-story glass “drum” for handbags and denim, a bevy of shop-in-shops, and 9,400 square feet of shoes. Global recession says what? [WWD]

Shot By Arthur, Zac Leaves the Park, And More…

How much would you pay for a signed portrait by Arthur Elgort? Well, if you buy $2,500 worth of Dior duds on September 10, the photog will throw in a picture for free. Bonus: Vogue cover girl Charlize Theron will be signing (this year’s) September issues all night. [WWD]

The Church of Bulgaria is urging its countrymen to skip the Madonna concert this weekend or, it seems, risk going to hell. Now that’s a toughie. [Yahoo News]

Zac Posen is ditching the tents at his late-night slot and heading for an a.m. viewing at the Altman Building, citing the desire for an “intimacy between model, clothing, and audience.” Yes, at 9 a.m., everyone gets to know each other quite well. [WWD]

Social register alert: Amanda Hearst is dating Alejandro Santo Domingo. This means she could be Lauren Santo Domingo‘s sister-in-law, and all the best clothes in the world will be divided between them. [Page Six]

Charlize Theron: Scissor Sister?

Did Charlize Theron pull a Kate Moss at Salma Hayek and François-Henri Pinault’s Venice wedding party? (Kate the Great, you’ll remember, tied her vintage Dior gown up into a mini after someone stepped on the train and ripped it at an exhibition in London a couple of years back.) Exhibit A: Charlize arrived at the wedding in a long pearl gray Christian Dior stunner, and left—Exhibit B—in the same dress with a decidedly shorter (and somewhat ragged) hem. What’s your best DIY dress-up moment? Tell all below.

Paris Highlights: Le Beat Goes On

With just one day of rest between Milan’s Extreme blow-out Monday night and today’s shows in Paris, RTW devotees are gearing up for the Month of Fashion’s final lap. Paris, like its metropolitan counterparts, is scaling back a bit this season (we hear Givenchy’s dark-and-rocking after-party has been canceled, for one), but the French city is still hosting more than its share of feuding fêtes.
