The 12 Days Of Christmas: Day 11

-------

As you might be able to tell from the fact that I am the second-to-last post for our 12 Days of Christmas series, I have spent weeks belaboring over what I want for Christmas. It’s the annual need-or-want debate. What I need is a new pair of winter snow boots and cashmere sweaters to add to my wardrobe for the inevitable cold front that’s going to hit the East Coast; I am a California girl still learning that winter means below 60 degrees. What I want: this Rick Owens biker number. Let’s just say it’s on my fantasy Christmas wish list, but I’d be more than willing to pay weekly installments on it for a very long time. Note to Santa: I’ve been a really good girl this year.

My work—my life—often feels like a big pile of papers that have slipped out of whatever order I originally put them in. That’s why I can’t resist this snappy, decidedly disciplined Coach briefcase. It contains all that confusion and profusion, almost mercilessly. It recalls an age of less overflow. Coach has offered it for a few years, but this holiday season it’s also available in a shade of green that puts me in mind of desk blotters and pool-table felt—not an everyday color, to be sure, but as a freelancer, I’m not carrying a briefcase that often anyway. That said, the more I admire the discreet brass hardware and suede-lined secondary compartments, though, the readier I am to rethink that. The briefcase bit, I mean.

The 12 Days of Christmas: Day 9

This Christmas, my boyfriend asked me for a tree saw. Not lying. “I don’t like surprises,” he said. “I want something I need. I need a tree saw.”

But you know who does like surprises? Me. Despite the many blissful hours of branch trimming I’m sure that tree saw would have provided, my musician boyfriend will be getting jewelry instead. We’ve already cornered the market on pinky rings during holidays past—the better to provocatively shred that bass with—so this year I was thinking earrrings. I pierced his ear last last New Year’s (in the bathroom at a Hard Rock hotel, no less—so cliché), and he’s been trying to borrow my diamond studs ever since. Seeing as how how I’m not particularly excited by the idea of lending them out—he loses things on tour—I figured these Eddie Borgo cone studs would be a suitable alternative. For both of us.
