Need to Know: For their Fall 2013 presentation, titled “Vanities,” Dannijo designers Jodie and Danielle Snyder turned the Jane Hotel’s ballroom into a scene out of Dynasty, where models, draped in long-sleeve velvet gowns, sat dripping in the label’s colorful, oversize statement jewelry, which was featured in bold shades of ruby red, emerald green, and clear oxidized crystal. The collection was inspired in part by eighties opulence, specifically in homage to Elizabeth Taylor, and also by vanities of today. In discussing her own take on vanity, cohost and actress Rashida Jones admitted to being tormented by the word. “I have a weird relationship with vanity because I feel like it’s part of my job to be vain, but it’s something I abhor and don’t want to cultivate in myself,” she said. The scene soon turned into a party when singer Angela McCluskey performed for the crowd that included Hilary Rhoda and Coco Rocha.

She Says: “We thought, If Elizabeth Taylor were still around, what would she wear?” said Danielle Snyder. “She was known for beautiful, ornate fine jewelry but wanted to take red-carpet and black-tie jewelry and work backward. It’s easy to take jewelry and make it day-to-night, but it’s hard to take night jewelry and wear it during the day. This collection can be evening and worn for black-tie, but it gives a rocker-glam element to jeans and a tee.”

Destination: Iman

Iman can truly do it all. The supermodel, who practically invented the “model-slash” moniker, is CEO of her eponymous makeup label, regularly hawks her Global Chic fashion and accessories collections on HSN, runs a home decor line—and now you can tack on editor in chief to Mrs. Bowie’s ever-growing résumé. Destination Iman, which launched last night with a fête at the Dream Downtown’s Electric Room and drew the likes of Karen Elson, Joan Smalls, Coco Rocha, and Elettra Wiedemann, is the style icon’s first online magazine dedicated to her jet-setting lifestyle, fashion tips, and beauty advice.

“Twenty-year-olds would stop me on the street and say, ‘How do you take care of your skin? How do you look like this?’” the 57-year-old told Style.com, clad in a figure-flaunting Hérve Léger dress. Such run-ins led the beauty maven to write a blog post about aging chicly,which she e-mailed to girlfriend Arianna Huffington, who immediately wanted a monthly column. Soon after, the concept for Destination Iman was born. Last night’s party theme? “Paris: Noir et Blanc,” based on the freshman issue’s focus on the City of Light, which covers everything from Iman’s favorite hangouts (404 and Raspoutine) to what cookies she brings her daughter’s teacher (William Greenberg’s Black & White). “I was going to wear this vintage black and white YSL tonight,” Iman admitted. “But it needed space and there’s not much room here. That would be a disservice to Saint Laurent.”

Each month, readers can expect a column penned by Iman dubbed Ageless Chic, which speaks to the over-40 crowd—just don’t call her outlook aging gracefully. “That’s giving up,” Iman deadpanned. “Women have to pull it together. For fashion, you suffer.”

Coco Rocha, Longchamp’s Biker Babe

Canadian stunner Coco Rocha is once again the face of Longchamp’s Fall 2012 ad campaign, alongside up-and-coming model Emily DiDonato. For the campaign (pictured, below), lensed by photographer Max Vadukul, the two paraded around Paris carrying the label’s new LM Cuir line bags and wearing the brand’s Fall fur-trimmed leather coats. Here, get an exclusive behind-the-scenes look on set (pictured, above), where Rocha and DiDonato found themselves riding a tandem bike around the Place Dauphine and performing the Charleston near the Pont Neuf. Coco Rocha certainly made a good impression on Dennis Basso at the Met gala. Less than a month after the event, the designer has tapped Rocha as the face of his Fall collection, explaining that he “fell in love with” the model and the pantsuit she was wearing—a purchase made at the Elizabeth Taylor auction. You won’t have to travel all the way to Paris to find Hedi Slimane hard at work. The new creative director of Yves Saint Laurent has decided to make his studio in L.A., where he relocated in 2007 after leaving Dior Homme, his home base. Slimane follows the footsteps of Celine designer Phoebe Philo, who works on the Paris-based brand from London. [Vogue U.K.]

Emma Watson and Rihanna were spotted in New Orleans on the set of their new film, The End of the World, a Seth Rogan-directed comedy set for release in 2013. The ladies star alongside James Franco, Jonah Hill, and Jason Segel, who (in the film) all attend a party at Franco’s house when the apocalypse strikes. We wouldn’t mind an invite to that shindig. Models We Stand

“For too long, the modeling industry has been like the Wild West,” said Coco Rocha at last night’s launch party for the Model Alliance, a new nonprofit group organized by models, for models. Top models including Doutzen Kroes, Crystal Renn, Missy Rayder, and Ajak Deng stopped by the Standard Hotel to toast the cause. The Alliance started as an idea established by model Sara Ziff (the filmmaker behind the revealing documentary Picture Me), explored in a paper she wrote while studying community organizing at Columbia University. Ziff, who at 29 has now been modeling half her life, understands firsthand how young girls are often mistreated in an industry without real labor regulations. For example, catwalkers often begin working in their mid-teens, and many never get the chance to finish high school. They can go through an entire day of walking back-to-back runway shows without actually making any money, getting paid in “trade” (a.k.a. designer clothes) instead. And, there are still a great deal of complaints about backstage photographers taking unauthorized pictures of the girls changing. Typically, the models don’t speak up about these inequities because they know they’re highly replaceable. “Most models’ clout is as tiny as our size zero frames,” Ziff told Style.com. So she teamed up with former model and current fashion writer Jenna Sauers to give these girls a voice, and developed the Alliance along with the support of the CFDA and the new Fashion Law Institute at Fordham Law School. “Having experienced the highs and lows of this industry, I am ultra-excited about this,” said Rocha. “But we’ve still got a long way to go.”
