Even Kimye Will Come Out for a Good Cause

-------

Gelila Puck, Franca Sozzani, Kanye West, Kim Kardashian

Last night in L.A., some of the biggest names in fashion, music, film, and food came together at the inaugural gala and auction for Wolfgang and Gelila Puck’s Dream for Future Africa Foundation. Gelila, who was born in Ethiopia, founded the organization in 2010 in order to help the children of Africa. Indeed, it’s a good cause—one that drew everyone from Karolina Kurkova, Angela Lindvall, and Dita Von Teese to Quincy Jones, Smokey Robinson, and Reed Krakoff. “Tonight as I was getting ready, standing in my closet, this white gown called out to me,” the hostess said of her Deco dress. “I chose to wear white to represent our organic spirit in honor of our mission.”

As guests including Ali Larter, Maria Sharapova, Devon Aoki, and Rachel Zoe mingled, a newly engaged Kanye West and Kim Kardashian arrived just in time to greet the evening’s honoree, Vogue Italia editor in chief Franca Sozzani. “I doubt Franca knows this, but my first modeling job was with Vogue Italia,” said Amber Valletta while introducing Sozzani to the crowd. She later added that the editor changed the course of her career. Taking the stage to accept her accolade, Sozzani coined the night’s catchphrase: “Giving back is the new luxury.”

Zadig & Voltaire & Erin, Bergdorf’s Bets On Basics, A Lighter Shade Of Pale At Proenza, And More…

RVCA’s loss, Zadig & Voltaire’s gain? The French label has tapped Erin Wasson as its face for all of 2011—Spring and Fall—and will debut a capsule collection designed by the model later this year. [Elle U.K.]

Speaking of capsule collections, men can look forward to a new one, too: Bergdorf Goodman has commissioned Tim Hamilton to design a basics line for their men’s shop, consisting of, in the words of men’s fashion director Nickelson Wooster, “modern essentials: the perfect chino, the perfect V-neck sweater, the perfect polo.” [WWD]

Today on their Web site, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler debuted their ethereal new Spring 2011 campaign, shot by Willy Vanderperre and starring Melissa Tammerijn and Julia Nobis. [Proenza Schouler]

The pregnant-model and -starlet boom continues: Devon Aoki is the latest to announce she’s expecting. (Psst—if you’re looking for a dress, DA, we’ve got a few suggestions right this way.) [Page Six]

And news to us: Madonna has her own tartan. [WSJ]

A Magical Start To New York Fashion Week

-------

To make your party stand out from the rest during fashion week, it helps to have a few tricks up your sleeve—and A Small World chairman and man-about-town Patrick Liotard-Vogt certainly had one last night, in the form of magician David Blaine. All eyes (most of them very, very wide) were on the prestidigitator’s lightning-quick hands at the rooftop soirée, which raised funds for Liotard-Vogt’s F Cancer charity and had Blaine bending coins and performing other Jedi mind tricks for the likes of Maria Cornejo, Devon Aoki, and Anouck Lepère. “I know it’s all sleight-of-hand, but I can’t stop giggling like a little schoolgirl,” Waris Ahluwalia (left, with Blaine) admitted.

“If he could transport me to September 17, that would be the best trick,” suggested Lorenzo Martone, whose very busy coming week includes hosting after-parties for Ruffian on Thursday and L.A.M.B. on the 16th, and a Fashion Night Out fête with Carlos Miele. Really, Lorenzo, you’d want to skip all that? Consider us skeptical.

Blasblog: Last Magazine Standing

Indie fashion magazines might not be making buckets and buckets of money from advertising in this recession, but they sure are familiar with buckets of ice and Champagne. This week has seen swanky fêtes for Purple magazine, Another Magazine, V Magazine, and Pop, each of them decadent in different ways. So there was a certain relief in knowing that Wednesday night’s fête for Magnus Berger and Tenzin Wild’s Last Magazine, which was co-hosted by current cover girl Lily Donaldson and Starworks, was the final mag fête of the New York collections. Like the other parties, the turnout was good: Sienna Miller, Audrey Tautou, Jacquetta Wheeler, Lisa Cant, Cat Deeley, Jack Huston, Devon Aoki, Erin Wasson, Jonny Lee Miller, and Caroline Winberg all swung by the festivities, which included a performance from Lykke Li. And like any good downtown rager, the police came to break it up.

Cannes Watch: Devon Aoki

-------

Devon Aoki, a Lagerfeld muse-turned-actress (her new project, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Undead, is in post-production), looked every inch the leading lady in Alberta Ferretti and Chopard jewels at the Spring Fever premiere in Cannes last night. Makeup colors and soft pastels, like lilac, were big news for Spring and Resort. What do you think of lavender—does it work better for fragrances or fashion?
