Minnie’s All Dressed Up
Following the release of Barneys’ 2012 Electric Holiday film, an animated short that starred tall and skinny Disney characters wearing designer duds (Minnie in Lanvin, Goofy in Balmain, and Daisy in Dolce & Gabbana), the fashion biz took some heat for not portraying the iconic cartoons in their traditional proportions. Well, this weekend, in celebration of Disneyland Paris’ 20th anniversary, Alber Elbaz took a stab at a new Minnie Mouse ensemble. The lovable rodent stomped the runway in a custom purple embellished Lanvin frock and one of the designer’s Fall '13 Love necklaces. Needles to say, Ms. Mouse looked pretty sharp, and she didn’t have to lose a pound to do so. Other runway ensembles included a Cinderella-inspired knit skirt and top from London’s Sister by Sibling, and as well as enchanted wares from Custo Dalmau and Jean-Paul Knott. According to The Telegraph, some onlookers complained that they missed the polka dots. Elbaz offered, “We’re not here to transform people. We love her the way she is.”
Linda Evangelista, Warthog Appreciator, And More Breaking Intel From Last Night’s Disney Meets Barneys Bash
To say Barneys was animated last night would be an understatement. The retailer’s holiday pop-up—in the mold of last year’s Gaga’s Workshop—is an epic collaboration with Disney, which extends from novelty gifts to a DVF-designed Mickey statuette to character confections available at Fred’s, the store’s ninth-floor restaurant. An entire block of Madison Avenue was reserved for the screening of its Electric Holiday promo film, where animated versions of fashion types faced off with Disney favorites: Daphne Guinness admiring Cruella de Vil’s runway walk, Carine Roitfeld and Cathy Horyn sitting front-row for a cartoon fashion show where Minnie Mouse wore Lanvin ruffles and her usually topless beau, Mickey, tried on a Balenciaga sweatshirt. Hostess Sarah Jessica Parker, in L’Wren Scott and Scott and Stephen Jones-designed mouse ears, kicked off the event, which, she noted, was the unusual one she could attend with both her fashion pals and her daughters, Tabitha and Marion. “I’m delighted my children could come to something I’m working on,” she said, “which is a rare opportunity!”
As partiers circulated, we had to wonder—as SJP’s old alter ego might say—who’s your favorite Disney character?
Bryanboy: “Mickey Mouse. I love his voice—he reminds me of David Beckham. So iconic!”
Lazaro Hernandez, Proenza Schouler: “We did Tiana from The Princess and the Frog [for] the movie they’re showing tonight. She’s the newest one—makes sense, I guess. She’s really, really cute. But secretly, Minnie Mouse.”

Linda Evangelista: “I love The Lion King; Pumbaa is my favorite. So charming.”

Barbara Walters: “Minnie, because she is an inspiration to all of us. She’s unmarried—she’s been living with Mickey in sin all these years and they never broke up. And her wardrobe is always in style. What an inspiration to every woman!”
Rachael Taylor: “Cruella de Vil. She always looked so amazingly badass. I love that she was a villain in a fabulous coat, heels, and too much makeup. In my world, more is more.”
Bob Iger, CEO, The Walt Disney Company: “I have a lot of favorites, but I’m never public about them because I fear offending those who don’t agree. But tonight there was a character here I’m fond of: Tinker Bell. Impish, cute, fun—and she flies!”
Ann Dexter-Jones: “Is Betty Boop Disney? I guess not. I actually like Dopey. He’s so slow, and we live in New York, where nobody ever slows down for a minute.”
Liya Kebede: “I love the Little Mermaid. I like how she looks out for her friends like Sebastian.”
Her son, Shul, added, “I like all of them—except the princesses.”
A Minnie Moment
Last fall, it was Miss Piggy who had a serious moment on the fashion scene, thanks to her role in the Muppets film as a Paris Vogue editor and the resulting collaborations, editorials, and beauty deals). This season, however, there’s another lovable starlet who is set to stage a fashion week comeback: Minnie Mouse. British Vogue reports today that Minnie is getting a style upgrade, courtesy of designers including Richard Nicoll, Giles Deacon, Piers Atkinson, and Meadham Kirchhoff. As part of the Disney collaboration, the designers will be creating one-off garments (called the Minnie Mouse Must Haves), inspired by her signature bow and polka dots, during London fashion week. Afterwards, the items will be auctioned off on eBay to benefit the Fashion Arts Foundation. Whether we will also be seeing her cohorts, like Mickey Mouse, Daisy Duck, and Donald Duck, also hit the runway, remains uncertain for now.

Madonna’s MDNA concert tour kicks off today in Tel Aviv. While the iconic singer is sure to bring her signature moves to the stage, it’s her costumes that are generating the most buzz. An army of designers—Jean Paul Gaultier, Jeremy Scott, and Alexander Wang—have been enlisted to create eye-catching looks, to be accessorized with shoes from Prada and Miu Miu. Italian designer Fausto Puglisi (who also worked with the singer for the Super Bowl on M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj’s costumes) has also been tapped to design looks for the backup dancers. [WWD]
Now at Topshop, you can shop till you drop, and find yourself in a bed moments later. The retailer has teamed up with Travelodge on combined store and hotel development at Topshop’s flagship store in Edinburgh—what was once Topshop’s stock room has been converted into a 96-room hotel. [Telegraph]

Word on the street is that Barneys New York has plans to team up with the Walt Disney Co. for the upcoming holiday season, and they have all sorts of treats in store. Reportedly, one of the elements of the decorations will be an animated Disney fashion film starring fashion insiders. [WWD]

It’s a hat trick for Michael Kors: After being honored by the CFDA (with the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award) and the Fragrance Foundation (with induction to the Fragrance Hall of Fame), Kors scored his third nod, from the Cancer Research Institute for his work raising awareness about and funds for breast cancer.
