Despite the fact that it snowed in New York this week, the red carpet was full of summer vibes. Winter coats returned on the East Coast, and in Hollywood, short hemlines and light colors flourished for a bevy of parties, premieres, and award shows.
On Tuesday, Chloë Grace Moretz attended the opening night celebration of The Library in New York in an ecru lace frock with a black yolk from the Carven Pre-Fall ’14 lineup. The same night, another one of our favorite A-list teens, Kiernan Shipka, stepped out in a white, yellow, and gray patterned Preen dress for Jimmy Choo’s Choo.08 launch party in L.A.
With the premiere tour for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 officially underway, Emma Stone spent a lot of time on the red carpet this week. She stuck to a similar color palette for her Berlin appearances on Tuesday, choosing a light blue Erdem Fall ’14 frock dotted with red beading for the photo call and a Chanel Pre-Fall ’14 dress with a pale lavender skirt and red-striped bodice for the premiere that evening.
In case you were missing all that awards season glamour, Sunday’s MTV Movie Awards brought it back with a summery twist. Ellie Goulding walked the red carpet in a white Emporio Armani dress with cutouts on the sides, while Lupita Nyong’o opted for a gray Chanel Fall ’14 dress speckled with colorful geometrics. Rihanna strayed from the red-carpet norm, turning up in a beige corseted bodysuit and a pink silk robe from Ulyana Sergeenko’s Spring ’14 Haute Couture that took the leg-baring trend to a new level. Your move, Angelina.
Could Leonardo DiCaprio have been on to something when he wore that odd welder’s mask in Venice last month? We ask only because we’ve seen a whole batch of bizarro visages on the men’s Spring runways.
Etro closed its thematic, Mexican-inspired Spring show by sending out models in embellished Zoro masks. Emporio Armani (above, center), too, showed eye-shielding veneers that were, if you will, part OTT sunglasses and part 2020 masquerade ball.
Umit Benan harkened back to a Turkey (his home country) all but forgotten in its modern—and troubled—era. Tapping the famed Milanese opera house La Scala for help, Benan paired each of his looks with guises of actors from old Turkish cinema (above, right). The effect? Caustically comic.
And then there’s KTZ (above, left), the U.K.-based label spearheaded by Marjan Pejoski and Koji Maruyama. Their combination of hoods, eclectic prints (one of which resembled an old map), and medieval metallic masks seemed to suggest a fusion of Westeros and East London.
Throw an epic party—or, at least, that’s Giorgio Armani’s plan of action. At 3 p.m., we’ll be taking you inside Armani’s One Night Only Roma,—a celebration of Italy (and the brand’s new Via Condotti boutique) that will feature a triple runway event (the Fall ’13 Giorgio Armani and Emporio Armani collections will hit the catwalk, as will the Spring ’13 Armani Privé range), the opening of the expanded Eccentrico exhibition, which first made its debut in Milan in September, and a cocktail party and dinner. The house expects the likes of Sophia Loren, Milla Jovovich, Tina Turner, and, of course, Mr. Armani to descend upon Rome’s Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana for the festivities. Before our live stream kicks off (below), take a peek inside the Eccentrico exhibition (above), or browse through Armani’s exclusive content at www.onenightonly.armani.com.
Tonight, Giorgio Armani and co. will head to Rome to open his new boutique on Via Condotti (think Italy’s answer to Madison Avenue). But this is Armani we’re talking about, so, naturally, there will be a grande event to celebrate the store. At 3 p.m., Style.com will live-stream the house’s One Night Only Roma—a fete that will feature runway shows of the Fall ’13 collections from Giorgio Armani and Emporio Armani, as well as the Armani Privé Spring collection, the opening of Armani’s Eccentrico exhibition, and, of course, una festa with plenty of star power (Milla Jovovich, Tina Turner, and Sophia Loren will all be in attendance). Armani, which has, in the past, hosted similar events in London, Tokyo, and Beijing, has also given us a sneak peek at its Fall ’13 campaign. Lensed by Mert & Marcus and starring Mariacarla Boscono and Florian Van Bael, the snaps have a slick, futuristic edge. Take a peek at the campaign’s exclusive debut (above), and check back this afternoon for the live stream of Giorgio Armani’s One Night Only Roma show and party.
