Post-Paris, New York’s Party Circuit Is Back on Track

-------

Kate Foley, Serafina SamaJust when you thought that the peak season for air kisses and fashion chitchat had passed, wham!—along comes one of those New York City weeks that’s chockablock with events. Time to get your nice clothes back from the cleaner, where they’ve been sitting since your return from Paris, and refresh ye olde manicure.

Monday-night festivities included a dinner on the terrace of the Gramercy Park Hotel celebrating Charlotte Ronson’s collaboration with Vogue Eyewear, hosted by Eva Mendes.

Tuesday night found London-based Isa Arfen designer Serafina Sama throwing her first-ever Stateside bash at hot spot Omar’s. She drew quite a photogenic crowd, including her stylist, Valentine Fillol-Cordier, who flew in for the occasion; model/activist Kyleigh Kuhn; and host Kate Foley. Later that evening, action moved to the Fat Radish, where Antwerp-based designer (and Woolmark Prize-winner) Christian Wijnants presided over a family-style meal of celery pot pie and monkfish curry. (Just the hearty thing for the start of a cold snap.)

Family-style was the name of the game again on Wednesday night, which saw Assembly New York serving up farro and roast chicken at the fantastic new restaurant Dimes, on Division Street. Assembly ringleader Greg Armas and dinner hosts Ana Kras and Devendra Banhart mixed it up with the crowd. Meanwhile, down the road on Canal Street, Sea designers Monica Paolini and Sean Monahan were hosting at home and had cooked dinner themselves. The potatoes were particularly delicious: onion, rosemary, and lots and lots butter did the trick, according to Paolini. Worth getting the clothes back from the cleaner for.

Yea, Nay, Or Eh: Look For The Silver Lining?

-------

Eva Mendes stars in Anchorman director Adam McKay’s new flick, The Other Guys, where she plays Will Ferrell’s impossibly hot wife. Her dress at the film’s NYC premiere last night? Somewhere a little below that. Mendes selected a silvery gray number from Oscar de la Renta’s Resort collection, complete with a detachable, bow-tied puff around the waist. She accessorized the look with Sergio Rossi peep-toes and a chic, slicked-back pony. The peplum detail flatters Eva’s hourglass shape, and we think the rain-cloud color looks great on her. What do you think? Is Eva’s look a storm waiting to happen, or does it send you to Cloud Nine?

Gingham Goes Gray

-------

I’ve been crazy for gingham lately, and I’m not alone. Take Isaac Mizrahi. As he told us at his Resort presentation, gingham “is like a solid with a lot of personality.” The usual country red and royal blue ginghams have their place, but they don’t feel as fresh to me as the soft, floaty grays (and their near cousins, washed-out blacks and even watery blues) that have been cropping up everywhere, from street-style blogs to runways. There’s something so much more ethereal about the silvery tones, almost neutral; they’ll transition seamlessly from summer sun to the fall wardrobe. I love how Harper’s Bazaar Australia’s Christine Centenera pairs her gray gingham skirt with nude colors, or how the models Tommy Ton captures throw it on over whatever they’re wearing (pictured). Karl showed some lovely gingham looks at Chanel’s big Resort bash in Saint-Tropez, too, and Eva Mendes is a fan—she wore Dior’s version to the premiere of her movie The Other Guys in Cancún.

A Few Words With Fashion’s Saint Patrick, Dior Gets Law-Abiding, And More…

-------

Paparazzi: Take a lesson from Patrick McMullan (pictured, right), godfather of party photogs: stop taking pictures of Lindsay Lohan passed out in the backseat of a car. [NYT]

Suave overload: Guy Ritchie is shooting Jude Law for a Dior Homme fragrance ad. We’re a little concerned so much roguishness in one place may throw the earth off its orbit, but it’s a risk worth taking. [WWD]

And speaking of models, rumor has it that Lara Stone is to be the new face of both Calvin Klein Collection and Calvin Klein jeans—a tribute, perhaps, to her high-fashion chops and her sexy (and much-remarked-upon) curves. CK is keeping mum, but if we were Eva Mendes, we’d be hitting the audition circuit a little harder right now. [WWD]

And since it’s been almost a full week without an Alice in Wonderland update, here’s your fix: Mad jeweler Tom Binns talks tea parties and smashing baubles in this new video interview. [Youtube]

On Our Radar: Oliver Peoples’ Diamond Annice Sunglasses

-------

Given their Old Hollywood (that is, glamorously retro) meets New Hollywood (that is, face-covering) style, no wonder that Oliver Peoples’ Annice frames have been sported by stars like Eva Mendes. But now the brand is cranking up the wattage even further, offering the style in white and yellow gold inlaid with pavé diamonds. As you might imagine, these are, shall we say, prohibitively priced. But if you’ve got around $25,000 to burn, they’re available at Ilori boutiques in Vegas (yellow gold with yellow diamonds) and on Rodeo Drive (white gold with white diamonds), the only two places on earth—well, besides Moscow—where they might conceivably find a buyer.
