Label: Fay, designed by Tommaso Aquilano and Roberto Rimondi of Aquilano.Rimondi and owned by Diego Della Valle’s Tod’s Group.
Need to know: Aquilano and Rimondi took the reins at this previously outerwear-focused brand last year, tasked with adding ready-to-wear to the mix. For Spring, they’re thinking 1960s: shifts, safari jackets, and minis in gelato colors, luxed up with either patent trim or real crocodile patches.
Where to find it: The brand is in expansion mode, looking for new accounts across the globe, which explains the splashy presentation at Milan’s Palazzo Gallarati Scotti and an all-star casting that included Cara Delevingne and Ava Smith scuffing around the place in patent Chelsea boots.
News of designers leaving is more common at the moment than designers arriving, but the recently dispossessed Tommaso Aquilano and Roberto Rimondi (above, with Andrea Della Valle), who lately parted company with Gianfranco Ferré, have a new home. Tod’s Group announced today that the pair—who worked together not only at Ferré but also at Malo and their own labels, Aquilano.Rimondi and 6267—will be collaborating with Fay. Their first collection for the label, for Spring ’12, will be shown during Milan fashion week in September.
