A First Look At Pierre By Balmain, Tom Ford Hits Harrods, Raquel In Brazil, And More…

Affordable Balmain—a contradiction in terms? There’s no evidence to suggest that the label’s four-figure tattered tees are going anywhere, but for the slightly more cash-strapped, the company is introducing Pierre Balmain, a lower-priced, younger-skewing collection for men and women, made in partnership with Ittierre. Set to launch in the spring in 700 stores worldwide, the collection includes a mix of dresses, knitwear, leathers, and jeans (equipped with the label’s signature sparkles and studs, we hope). Your first peek is above. [Balmain]

Tom Ford’s first U.K. womenswear boutique opened in Harrods today, opposite Gucci. Though there’s only ready-to-wear in the space right now, Tom Ford shoes, bags, and jewelry are coming soon. [Vogue.U.K.]

Despite the summer heat, Brazilian supermodel Raquel Zimmermann continues to keep her cool. In a new “pulp cinema-inspired film” on, she shows off chic pieces from Brazilian design stars like Alexandre Herchcovitch, Andrea Marques, and Pedro Lourenço. [Nowness]

Gucci’s creative director, Frida Giannini, has shared an Italian style guide with Details on where to eat, shop, and take in breathtaking views. Of her favorite romantic spot, the Ponte Vecchio, she says, “It’s so breathtaking at sunset that you forget your sense of time.” [Details]

Miranda Kerr Unwrapped For Victoria’s Secret Holiday Catalog, Tom Ford’s Morning Ritual, Yachting With Gucci, And More…

It’s not the gift-giving season quite yet, but photographer Russell James was feeling the holiday spirit yesterday when he shared behind-the-scenes images of Miranda Kerr’s Victoria’s Secret catalog shoot. Looks like she forgot her wrapping paper—Kerr is baring lots of skin, wearing nothing but a giant bow and lace lingerie. [@NomadRJ]

Apparently, Tom Ford doesn’t wake up as Tom Ford. In an interview with Hint Magazine, the designer says, “It takes me a long time in the morning to become the person that other people expect me to be. When I feel depressed and I have a bad day or something terrible has happened or I have to face something, I go through a very precise ritual getting dressed in the morning.” The designer let his guard down on a few other things in the interview, too, from his desire to be hit on to what he learned from spending the past two months in Mexico. If you don’t have plans for the weekend, Gucci invites you aboard its yacht. The 33-foot Aquariva, designed by Gucci creative director Frida Giannini, will be at Sag Harbor Cove Yacht Club this weekend, available to view by appointment. If you really like the boat, created for Gucci’s 90th anniversary celebration, you can buy it for $750,000. [WWD]

Congratulations to the CFDA’s Steven Kolb. He has served as executive director of the Council of Fashion Designers of America for the past five years, and he is now the chief executive officer. Of his new positions, he Tweets, “Same job. Same tweets. Just a new title.” [@stevenkolb]

Florence Welch For Gucci, Daphne Guinness: The Film, Mother’s Day Chez Roitfeld, And More…

It’s “Cosmic Love” between Gucci’s Frida Giannini and Florence Welch. After meeting the ginger songstress at the Grammys this year, the designer says she was so struck by Welch’s presence that she inspired Gucci’s Fall ’11 collection. Why? She’s got the “self-assured look that goes hand in hand with the Gucci woman,” Giannini says. [Vogue U.K.]

Daphne Guinness—shy? The heiress, who got dressed for this year’s Met gala in the windows of Barneys, admits, “Maybe this is my way of getting more comfortable with people. I gravitated towards people who are as shy as I was. We sort of huddled together, like on a raft.” Learn more about Guinness in “Daphne’s Window,” a new short film by Brennan Stasiewicz. [Nowness] revealed what Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld planned to give Carine for Mother’s Day this year, but here is a look at one of his creative gifts from his younger years. In this image, the first to be released from the Rizzoli pictorial biography on the former Paris Vogue editor due out in October, depicts Roitfeld wearing a shirt Vladimir made for her on Mother’s Day when he was eight years old. And today in tipples: The world’s most expensive bottle of Champagne was purchased at an auction for $41,000. “Vintage,” in this case, barely covers it: The bottle of Veuve Clicquot has been chilling since the 1840′s beneath the Baltic Sea. [ELLE]

J.Lo’s L.A. Lunch

Not all the fashion action is happening at Lincoln Center and Milk Studios this week. Yesterday, Gucci’s Frida Giannini was honored at UNICEF’s inaugural Women of Compassion Luncheon in L.A. before a crowd that included Camilla Belle, Mary J. Blige, and lensman Patrick Demarchelier.

Jennifer Lopez, now starring in the ads for Gucci’s children’s collection alongside twins Max and Emme, was on hand to present the designer with her award. “We actually met when I was about to pop, maybe two weeks before I gave birth at the big Malawi fundraiser she did with Madonna,” Lopez (left, with Giannini) told “Every child in the world, in essence, could be yours,” she went on. “It makes you want to do things and work toward helping in any way you can, in every way you can.”

Giannini, for her part, stayed in town for the Grammys, then headed back to Milan. With less than two weeks before her Fall show, she dropped some hints about her impending collection. “You will see an explosion of color, which is very unusual for a Fall collection.”
