With Apologies To Bryan Ferry

When the snowboarding and surfing giant Roxy announced it was throwing a Roxy Music party, a few ears piqued at the news. “Careful now,” a friend or two warned, “Roxy Music is a cherished institution.” Bryan Ferry fans needn’t have worried. In fact, the snazzy dresser himself might like the fancy fluorescent headphones made in collaboration with audio authorities JBL that Roxy launched at last night’s fête. If nothing else, he would’ve admired the pretty ladies assembled at the Red Bull Space. Harley Viera Newton, Daisy O’Dell, and Crystal Castles all worked the turntables, and the band Golden Filter performed for 90210‘s Jessica Lowndes, Fabiola Beracasa, Genevieve Jones, and Tallulah Harlech. “I feel like I’m in an episode of Gossip Girl,” said Leigh Lezark, “which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.”

Blasblog: Only The Essentials At A La Perla Party

Back in January, during the haute couture shows, Liz Goldwyn told me that in these times of economic strife she’s only investing in the thing that means the most to her: designer lingerie. And then she added that she was working on a top secret jewelry line for a “very important fashion house,” which she would announce later this year. That led me to the somewhat obvious conclusion that the modern lady is only looking for two things in her life: good intimates and fun bling-bling. On Tuesday night, both were on offer at La Perla’s Meatpacking District outpost, where girl-about-town-turned-jewelry designer Genevieve Jones hosted a preview of her fall line. “If I could, that’s all I would wear—fancy jewelry and fancy panties,” Jones sighed. Joining her were the likes of designers Zac Posen and Elise Øverland and fellow fashion friends Sophia Hesketh, Bonnie Morrison, and Julia Restoin-Roitfeld. “I didn’t expect it to be such hard work,” Jones said of her design forays. (She also does accessories; Kate Moss has been carrying a black leather tassel bag of hers for months now.) “But it’s so rewarding, and something I have a genuine passion for.” Passion was a theme: Restoin-Roitfeld said that she was returning to the scene of her own crime just by entering the store. “I was just in here before I went to Europe and spent so much money on sexy things,” she smiled.

Kai Kuhne Had An Arty Week

It’s no secret that women in the art world don’t mind going there a little with their fashion. (Please see: Cindy Sherman in Comme des Garçons’ bump dress.) Last week, prompted by his love of those ladies and the fact that the seven-day stretch was stacked with arty activities (Terence Koh and Cindy Sherman’s openings, the Guggenheim gala, the Metal Ball), Kai Kühne made it his mission to dress some of said world’s most stylish denizens. On that list were curator Yvonne Force Villareal (pictured, top right), Performa founder Roselee Goldberg (pictured, bottom right), artists Agathe Snow (pictured, bottom left) and Rita Ackermann, art lover Genevieve Jones, and gallerist Bronwyn Keenan (pictured, top left). Kühne’s Spring collection was filled with intricate and architectural tailoring inspired by leeks. (What could be artier than that?) For his part, Kühne told us that he enjoys giving creative women the feeling of being “female sculptures,” and frankly, they’re also a lot of fun.

Blasblog: Did Genevieve Jones Make An It Bag?

The night of November 4, when Senator What’s-His-Name was announced President-Elect, was a momentous occasion for lots of people. But Genevieve Jones, the former girl-about-town accessories designer, was celebrating a slightly different victory. “I was at a friend’s pad watching the election results and got an e-mail from Julia [Restoin-Roitfeld] saying that Kate Moss was carrying my bag, but I couldn’t open the pictures on my iPhone,” Jones recalls. “So I got the hell out of that party and went to my computer.” As various former red states were called blue in the background, Jones hunted every pap site looking for more pics of It bag kingmaker Moss toting her accessories and calling friends and family to celebrate the good news—both the country’s and her own. “My parents told me Obama officially won, but I didn’t know which I was happier about,” Jones deadpans. “I went to bed with the biggest smile ever.” The bag in question is a black leather fringe boho number (pictured here), which found its way into Moss’ closet in a very modern way. “I saw Kate out one night and she told me she liked my bag,” explains Jones. “So the next day I gave her whatever she wanted, with a major discount.” It’s that sort of pluck and luck that has helped spur the one-year-old, Thailand-based Genevieve Jones accessories label, which includes jewelry and handbags, into the big time. (You can see her collections on her newly launched Web site, “All my girlfriends tote around my bags and wear my jewels, and I love them forever for it,” Jones says. Next up on the celebrity roster? “Lourdes!” says Jones. “She’s the coolest-looking, beautiful young girl!”
