Free Ride’s Selfie Machine: Worst Idea Ever? Probably

Free Ride, a shuttle service that transports sun-seeking and apparently narcissistic Hamptons residents to the beach, has installed selfie machines—that is to say, iPads attached to the backs of seats—in a series of its cabs. “Everyone’s very selfie crazy right now,” Free Ride cofounder Alex Esposito told the New York Post. Considering psychiatrists have recently linked obsessive selfie-taking to serious mental disorders, Free Ride might want to rethink its new attraction. Also, it’s a bit gauche, no?

Tomas Maier Heads Due North

If anyone can get me excited about a bathing suit on as frigid a day as this, it’s Tomas Maier. News that the Miami-based German designer (and Bottega Veneta creative director) is joining the modish migration to the Hamptons should be music to every bikini connoisseur’s ears. Maier will open his third store on the Montauk Highway in Wainscott in May. (See the charming little rendering here.) Look for the designer’s signature beachwear, sleek dresses and knits, and of course his exceedingly discriminating selection of books, jewelry, home wares and fashion pieces from designers like Azzedine Alaïa, Lanvin, and Missoni. Your summer shopping just got way easier.
