Cara Delevingne Sets Sights on Never Never Land

-------

Cara Delevingne

Just when we thought model-slash-singer was the new model-slash-actress, Cara Delevingne takes the theory to the next level by covering all the bases simultaneously. The model-slash-singer-slash-actress has reportedly landed a small role in Joe Wright’s new adaptation of Peter Pan. Slated to hit theaters in 2015, the film boasts an impressive cast including Amanda Seyfried (as Mary), Hugh Jackman (as Blackbeard), and Rooney Mara (as Tiger Lily). This marks the second time Delevingne and Wright have worked together, the first being the catwalker’s film debut in Anna Karenina. So, what can’t Cara do? She models. She sings. She acts. And if this Burberry moment is any indication, she even flies.

Tao Okamoto Trades the Catwalk for the Silver Screen

-------

Although she starred in the recent Mario Sorrenti-lensed Rihanna for River Island campaign (above), Japanese model Tao Okamoto has largely been missing from the catwalk. And now, our suspicions as to why have been confirmed. The trailer for the new X-Men film, The Wolverine (out this summer), was released today, and guess who plays Wolverine’s (i.e., Hugh Jackman’s) love interest, Mariko Yashida? Sure, we know the stigma surrounding the “model-slash-actress” title, but perhaps Okamoto will follow in the footsteps of peers like Milla Jovovich and Amber Valletta to make her mark. Take a peek at Okamoto’s acting debut in the film’s trailer, below.

And The Nominees Are…

-------

The frenetic buzz of awards season continues today with the Film Academy’s announcement of 2013′s Oscar nominees. Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln racked up an impressive twelve nods, best picture and best actor included. Jessica Chastain, Jennifer Lawrence, and Naomi Watts are up for the Actress in a Leading Role award, as are 85-year-old Amour star Emmanuelle Riva (the oldest nominee in the category in history) and 9-year-old Beasts of the Southern Wild lead Quvenzhané Wallis (the category’s youngest nominee in history). Amy Adams, Anne Hathaway, Sally Field, Helen Hunt, and Jackie Weaver are in the running for Best Actress in a Supporting Role, while the leading actor list includes Bradley Cooper, Joaquin Phoenix, Denzel Washington, Daniel Day-Lewis, and Hugh Jackman. Lincoln, Les Misérables, Life of Pi, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Zero Dark Thirty, Silver Linings Playbook, Amour, Django Unchained, and Argo are all up for Best Picture.

Naturally, during the ceremony on Feburary 24, we’ll have our eye on the stars’ red carpet styles. But with so many period films released in 2012, the masterminds behind this year’s blockbuster costumes are deserving of recognition, too. Jacqueline Durran is nominated in the Achievement in Costume Design category for the 19th-century Russian finery she designed for Anna Karenina (left), while Paco Delgado was nominated for Les Misérables. Joanna Johnston is also on the list for Lincoln‘s Civil War-era garb, and Eiko Ishioka and Colleen Atwood were nominated for Mirror Mirror and Snow White and the Huntsman, respectively. Awards season is officially upon us. The Golden Globes are set for Sunday, January 13 (check back for our coverage), and today the nominees for the BAFTAs were announced. Lincoln, Argo, Zero Dark Thirty, and Les Misérables racked up the most nods, and red-carpet favorites like Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Marion Cotillard, Amy Adams, Jennifer Lawrence, and Helen Mirren (who just received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame), as well as Javier Bardem, Ben Affleck, Hugh Jackman, and Daniel Day-Lewis, are all up for honors. We’ll have to wait until the ceremony, which will be held at London’s Royal Opera House on February 10, to see who wins and, of course, what everyone wears. MoMA Brings Mayor Bloomberg, Hugh Jackman, And Karen O Together At Last

-------

“I’m only here for one reason,” said Hugh Jackman. “To get this party started.”

Mission accomplished. Jackman was at MoMA to announce Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, who gave a raucous performance for a crowd that included Mayor Bloomberg and about as many art-world heavies as are allowed in one room at one time. The dress code was black tie, but MoMA being MoMA, a few took it with a grain of salt. Chuck Close was wearing his tuxedo jacket but shrugged off sartorial inquiries to talk about his gorgeous companion, Sienna (she, for the record, was wearing a taupe raw-silk dress). And more than a few ladies piled on the color: Karen O, onstage, opted for a riot-colored batwing-sleeved tunic dress (pictured); Nicole Miller, in the crowd, was wearing a layered blue and green gown. Ronald Lauder, the evening’s honoree (along with Jo Carole Lauder), surveyed the crowd with a smile. “I very much approve,” he said. “They are beautiful.” As arguably the U.S.’s premiere beauty magnate, he should know.
