Blasblog: Celebrating New York In Paris…I Think

There are at least two things I can count on in Paris: various fellow New Yorkers letting loose for fashion month’s last leg, and a late-night dance party at Regine’s. For the past few seasons, I’ve helped friends like Paul Sevigny, MisShapes Leigh Lezark and Geordon Nicol, and Tommy Saleh organize a little fête, appropriately named New York New York, that combines both. Last night was this season’s incarnation. The details are sketchy, but from what I can remember—and from the pictures mysteriously found on my BlackBerry this morning—it was as crazy an affair as in years past.

Holding court in one corner was a European contingent of Margherita Missoni, Tatiana Santo Domingo, Andrea Casiraghi, Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld, and Lily Donaldson. Michael Stipe took over the booth next to them. And following a feisty entrance, Lindsay Lohan and her assorted entourage took over another. Lohan had in tow Irina Lazareanu, proudly boasting that the model was wearing one of her Emanuel Ungaro designs. “She’s in me!” exclaimed the blonde multi-hyphenate to Giovanna Battaglia, who had stripped down to an almost Lohan-esque look of bra accessorized with a brooch. As for the hazier moments, I do recall helping Katy Perry down from the mirrored table she had been dancing on, as well as Riccardo Tisci, out to celebrate his smash Givenchy show, holding a sexy blonde girl over his head. Someone sent me a YouTube link to a clip of me swinging Elle‘s Kate Lanphear around the dance floor like a rag doll. Who knows what may surface in the next few days? But hey, c’est la vie in Paris. Post Recession Spending, Paltrow’s New Pad, Irina For Spike, And More…

Introducing “the new normal,” a post-recession shopping world in which everyone is poor. Sigh. [WWD]

Rumors that Puig Fashion Group president Mario Grauso may leave his post—which includes running Carolina Herrera—have sparked speculation that loyal CH fans like Renée Zellweger and Amy Adams will stop wearing Herrera’s clothes after he leaves. We’re pretty sure they’re in it for the refined glam, not the business acumen. [NY Post]

Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin have bought the house next door to their already sizable London home. Plans for a 33-room mansion are in the works. GOOP readers can anticipate a DIY home remodeling guide. Step 1: Be insanely wealthy. [Daily Mail]

Spike Lee: fashion guru? Word is the director approached Irina Lazareanu for a role in his next film. She said yes. [Grazia]

blasblog from paris: the le baron-regine express

Before I came to Paris I was told by very reliable sources that this season’s hot spot would be Régine’s, the storied dance club that’s reached by descending two flights of mirrored staircases. Specifically, I was told it would be this season’s Le Baron, a reference to the smoky club on Avenue Marceau that was the place to be during the Fall collections. Well, I can now report that while Régine’s is officially a hot spot (I’ve been there every night, embarrassingly enough, and have witnessed everyone from Harvey Weinstein to Camilla Al Fayed to Anouck Lepère hitting the dance floor; it’s also where Mary-Kate Olsen made her first Paris fashion week appearance late Tuesday), the club has not exactly replaced Le Baron in popularity. Le Baron owner (and Beatrice Inn partner) André, who took over the lease at Régine’s a month ago, has decided to make it the official post-Baron destination. “It was the weirdest thing on Monday night: It was decided that it was time to go to Régine’s from Le Baron, and everyone just got up and walked out,” Jessica Stam remembered of the Purple magazine party at Le Baron earlier in the week. It was no casual migration: Purple magazine staffers were even shuttling taxis to make sure there were no clubbing casualties. After the Balenciaga party at Le Baron on Tuesday night, once again, all cars headed to Régine’s. “I’m surprised he didn’t get the doubledecker bus again,” Irina Lazareanu said. Well, the week isn’t over yet.

blasblog: the elusive irina lazareanu

I’ve had a few Irina Lazareanu sightings this week, but none of them have been on the runway. I bumped into her once in Soho, where the model/musician lives; we greeted each other at both the Purple magazine dinner this weekend and the Vogue/Cole Haan party the next day; and I could see her yukking it up with Juliette Lewis at the 3.1 Phillip Lim show yesterday. But finally, at last night’s V magazine party on the roof of the Mini Cooper event space in Hell’s Kitchen, we discussed why in the (fashion) world she hasn’t been on the catwalk yet. “To be honest, I wanted to take a season off,” Lazareanu told me. “I wanted to focus on my music, and not be distracted. I wanted to relax and write. And I wanted to give them a chance to miss me. Do you think they’ll miss me?” Besides her oddly offbeat runway walk, one thing that we would miss—if she wasn’t so generous with it even when off the runway—is her quirky personal style. Lat night, she had on denim shorts hidden under a sequin shirt-cum-dress, ankle boots, and a feather. Why? “Why the hell not? I wanted to look like I lost my mind, which a lot of people think anyway.”

lo-mi fabulousness

It might not be a concern many fashion week-ers will find themselves pondering in the next couple days, but just in case anyone is wondering where to get a drink in Lower Midtown (or Lo-Mi, as those in the know call it), scenesters like Irina Lazareanu and Liz Goldwyn have found the perfect place: Tillman’s, at 165 W. 26th St. That’s where the duo were spotted cocktailing it with friends Elise Øverland, Subversive’s Justin Giunta, and Erin Fetherstone’s hubby Hedi Ferjani (the designer was presumably dealing with last-minute alterations for her show this afternoon) last night.
