EXCLUSIVE: VFiles Names Its Spring 2015 Runway Show Designers

-------

vfiles-blogLast season’s VFiles runway labels, ASSK, Hyein Seo, and Melitta Baumeister, went into the show without much of a presence on the global fashion scene. The designers, who earned their spots through an online competition, came out of it with such retailers as Dover Street Market and celebrity clients like Rihanna. If you still thought VFiles is just here to fill fashion’s missing “weird” quotient, think again.

VFiles has just announced the newest crop of designers for the Spring 2015 show, and Style.com got the first look at the list. The four designers showing at the September 3 show at Webster Hall in New York are Moscow-based Tigran Avetisyan of menswear label Tigran, Tokyo-based Detto Kazuma of menswear label DTTK, New York-based Hygein Hamm of the denim label Hamm, and London-based Dasha Selyanova of womenswear label ZDDZ. Calvin Klein’s Italo Zucchelli, Candy Pratts Price, and stylist Mel Ottenberg are all throwing their weight behind the show this season, acting as judges and mentors for the program. They, along with the VFiles team and the online community, helped select this latest group.

“Pay attention! Power to the fashion people—VFiles is a movement,” says Julie Anne Quay, who founded the digital fashion and cultural hub. “The Internet fashion generation is here to stay, the barriers to entry are disappearing, and becoming your own brand is more accessible and possible than ever,” states Quay, who reports that more and more people are entering the competition after seeing the previous designers’ successful outcomes.

Select pieces from each of the designers’ collections will be available for purchase immediately at the VFiles shop in Soho, where they’ll hang alongside labels like Craig Green and Hood by Air. EXCLUSIVE: AmfAR to Honor Calvin Klein Collection, HBO, and H.R.H. Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway

-------

Italo Zucchelli, Francisco CostaWhen it comes to spring soirees, the amfAR fete is one of the hottest tickets in town. For its fifth annual Inspiration Gala celebrating men’s style, the world’s top menswear designers will create custom-made looks for a print-focused runway show at The Plaza’s Palm Court. The evening, which is scheduled for June 10, will also serve to honor a few standup groups and individuals: H.R.H. Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway, HBO, and Calvin Klein Collection. Michael Lombardo will accept the award on behalf of HBO (Sarah Jessica Parker, a longtime amfAR supporter, will present the award to him), while Francisco Costa and Italo Zucchelli will accept on behalf of Calvin Klein Collection. The benefit, presented by MAC Viva Glam, will also include a rare performance by New Order, as well as a live auction of luxury goods. Since its inception in 2010, the Inspiration event series has raised $15 million for amfAR. Event chairs include Thom Browne, Thakoon Panichgul, James Franco, Simon Doonan, and Jennifer Lopez.

Exclusive: Givenchy Unveils Its Pre-Fall ’14 Menswear

-------

Givenchy Pre-Fall Menswear 2014Givenchy’s Riccardo Tisci traveled to New York this week to present his new Pre-Fall collection to the press. But like several other designers of late (among them Calvin Klein Collection’s Italo Zucchelli and Dior Homme’s Kris Van Assche), Tisci is promoting not only his women’s pre-collection, but one for men, too. “This collection comprises the ten essential looks for the Givenchy man,” he told Style.com about the men’s line, which features tribal prints and geometric details, as well as new plays on bleached denim. “The techno-ethnic print is taken to another level, particularly with the new Rave bag. The overall feeling this season is elegant, yet urban.” The range picks up some of the same notes as the African-inspired menswear collection for Spring ’14, but also that of the women’s Spring ’14 offering. Cross-pollination is a Tisci tried-and-true, which should make it no surprise that he hinted that polo shirts debuting now as part of women’s Pre-Fall will find new life in the men’s Fall ’14 collection in a few weeks.

The complete men’s Pre-Fall ’14 collection debuts exclusively on Style.com. Click here for the full slideshow.
