Scads of Supermodels (and Harry Brant, too) on Day 3 of PFW

-------

Model Mania

We can always count on Paris for high-wattage casts, but we never expected to see so many supermodels this early in the week. None other than Gisele Bündchen kicked things off today by closing Balenciaga (the last time she set foot on a runway was Alexander Wang’s Fall ’12 show two years ago), where she was notably joined by familiar faces Mariacarla Boscono and Natasha Poly. Several hours later, Balmain continued to raise the bar with a lineup full of A-listers, including Angela Lindvall, Anja Rubik, Emily DiDonato, Izabel Goulart, and closer Rosie Huntington-Whiteley (who also walked in the label’s Spring show). Compared to those all-stars, the other major girls in the mix—Karlie Kloss, Joan Smalls, Jourdan Dunn, and Edie Campbell—all but faded into the background. And then leave it to Rick Owens to throw a wrench into the works. Following his step dancers last season, the designer turned heads again by interspersing old-school veterans such as Kirsten Owen and Diana Dondoe with real, mature women (many of whom, we’re happy to say, were not sample size). But this was no street-casting job. Rather, Owens’s casting directors, Angus Munro and Noah Shelley, told Style.com that “most of the ‘women’ were part of the Owens organization.” Owens kept it fresh by keeping it in the family. Speaking of keeping it in the family, we were pleasantly surprised to see Harry Brant follow supermodel mom Stephanie Seymour when he made his runway debut at IRFE. Sadly, his older brother, Peter Brant Jr., didn’t make the cut. There’s always next season, Peter.

Supermodels MATE For Life, And More Of The Day’s Top Stories

-------

Top models Karlie Kloss, Lily Donaldson, Constance Jablonski, Isabeli Fontana, Izabel Goulart, and Edita Vilkeviciute were among the guests who flocked to Peru to celebrate the opening of Mario Testino’s Asociación Mario Testino—a.k.a. MATE—a non-profit organization promoting Peruvian art. While Testino’s work will be on permanent display, an inaugural exhibition will open to the public on July 17. [MATE]

When supermodel Doutzen Kroes saw the recent cover of Vogue China, she was surprised at what she saw. The magazine had photoshopped her image so that she looked as though she only had one leg. “I think photoshopping is OK until something like that happens,” she said. “You don’t want to lose one of your limbs.” Agreed. Raf Simons’ Couture debut at Christian Dior had everybody talking. The floral arrangements were just as head-turning as the clothes. Get a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the million-flower setup of peonies, goldenrod, dahlias, and more, which were cut and arranged to decorate five salons. [Telegraph]

The men of Brazil are in for a treat. Gucci is opening a men’s store in São Paulo on July 21. The 3,600-square-foot shop will be Gucci’s sixth men’s-only outpost and will include a full range of menswear, accessories, and luggage, as well as a made-to-measure tailoring program. [WWD]

Taylor Swift just gave Lady Gaga a run for her money—literally. The country pop singer has taken reign as the highest-earning star under 30 years old, taking in an impressive $57 million. Gaga’s earnings dropped from $90 million to $52 million (still not too shabby), landing her the fourth spot on the list, along with Adele, Rihanna, Katy Perry, and Kristen Stewart. [Vogue U.K.]

Posen To Paris (Peut-Être), Models On Wall Street, And More…

-------

Next season, Zac Posen is showing in Paris, where “they understand” his clothes. Or, well, he may be showing in Paris, since showing in New York in “today’s climate” is “difficult.” Confused? Guess the designer is, too. Nothing’s been decided, but it sounds like Posen has set his sights on the City of Light. [WWD]

Naomi Watts has been tapped to play Marilyn Monroe in the screen adaptation of Joyce Carol Oates’ fictionalized memoir Blonde. Ms. Watts, you’ve got some curvin’ up to do. [Page Six]

Bankers’ lunch breaks today will come with eye candy. Express celebrates its 30th anniversary this afternoon with a Wall Street fashion show, featuring Alek Wek, Izabel Goulart, and Flavia de Oliveira. The bonuses, it seems, keep coming. [Modelinia]
