Hello, IRO

Those of Lower Manhattan love their leather jackets. And now, thanks to the new IRO boutique, there’s one more place they can find them. The Paris-based streetwear label, which celebrated the launch of its first New York City flagship last night over cocktails, offers, for lack of a better descriptor, a damn near perfect Perfecto. “It was what originally made us famous,” cofounder Arik Bitton told

Of course, leather jackets aren’t all IRO offers. Just ask Coco Rocha. “This place has everything a model’s wardrobe should have. If you don’t have it, come here and get it!” gushed the catwalker, who attended the opening with her husband, James Conran. When pressed as to her energy level post-Met Gala, Rocha laughed. “We were debating going to the after-party, but then we were like, No, we’re going home. We made some Bolognese and went to bed.”

With Harley Viera-Newton on the decks, guests such as Eniko Mihalik and Adrian Grenier perused IRO’s his and hers wares and minimalist, well-lit space. Following cocktail hour, the label hosted an intimate dinner at the Crosby Street Hotel’s private dining room—where Viera-Newton and Leigh Lezark played cat’s cradle, Mia Moretti chatted convivially with friends, and the brand’s other cofounder Laurent Bitton (yes, they’re brothers) offered an idyllic New York reprise: “When I’m here, the best thing to do is stay in Soho, go to The Mercer, and have a coffee.”

Coming Soon: “Cute Coco”

Model Coco Rocha might be “stuck here in the States,” but she is certainly making good use of her time. Last night, Rocha and her husband, James Conran, took a break from finishing their documentary and fixing up their house to swing by the New York premiere of One Day. “Why wouldn’t you want to go see a girly movie with your husband?” Rocha joked. “I’m a big Anne Hathaway fan—Princess Diarieshello.”

While she waits for her green card, however, she’s still taking to the skies—legally, of course. Rocha revealed she’s on the way to Los Angeles soon to finish up her jewelry line, in collaboration with a group called Senhoa. The collection, set to debut in October, is a philanthropic endeavor, providing a job, schooling, and a home to children in Cambodia who used to be in the sex trades. “We are trying to make it really fashion-forward, but we can only work with beading and they can’t weld because they are only little girls,” Conran told

Will it still look Oh So Coco? “It’s cute Coco,” Rocha, who personally favors “chunky, metal but still elegant” jewelry, explained.

Née Coco Rocha?

She might be Mrs. Conran soon. Coco Rocha announced today that she and her longtime boyfriend, interior designer James Conran, are engaged. That’s good enough reason for us to post a picture of her in a wedding-worthy frock by her friend Jean Paul Gaultier, from his Spring ’08 ready-to-wear collection. Here’s hoping for an Irish jig down the aisle like the one she did down JPG’s runway in 2007.
