Victoria’s Secret: The New Class

Devoted model obsessives pore over the casting for shows like Balenciaga, Prada, and Calvin Klein. But while most models are indeed thrilled to book high-fashion shows, many say the one they most dream of is the annual Victoria’s Secret lingerie spectacular. At last night’s epic show, there were plenty of Angels we’ve already come to know and love including Miranda Kerr, Alessandra Ambrosio, Doutzen Kroes, and Candice Swanepoel. But there were also 11 new girls, most very recognizable as European catwalk veterans. This year’s rookies included: Style.com/Print cover star Cara Delevingne and her fellow Brit Jourdan Dunn, Hilary Rhoda, Frida Gustavsson (left), Shu Pei Qin, Barbara Palvin, Jasmine Tookes, and Jessica Hart. We’ve got our favorite newcomer. How about you?

Pleats And Leather: Better Together?

Remember Melanie Griffith’s famous quote from Working Girl—”I have a head for business and a bod for sin”? We’re not sure the actress wore a pleated leather skirt in that classic eighties flick, but every time we see one on the runway, that’s the line that goes through our mind. One part lady, another part badass, they turned up at Celine and Prada for Spring and more recently at Calvin Klein Collection—glimpse model Jasmine Tookes working those buttery folds at last week’s pre-fall show. Karl Lagerfeld did one for his new collection, Karl, too. And we’ve got proof positive that these skirts make the cut on the streets. Model-off-duty Sara Blomqvist was snapped wearing a short version between shows in Paris, and we spotted actress-of-the-moment Felicity Jones working the look at the Bulgari holiday party in L.A.

Up Close and Personal with Our Top Ten New Models

As a rookie model walking the global circuit for the first time, you quickly learn that you’re expected to pose on demand anytime for anyone. And with every cell phone now equipped with a camera, anyone and everyone is prepared to make a demand. The young catwalkers who made the cut for our Top Ten New Models list mastered the mannequin game lickety-split, setting them apart from the rest of the blips on the Spring radar. (We saw quite a few of our picks on the runway at last night’s Versace for H&M spectacular.) Style.com asked these newcomers (and their agents) to capture a few candid moments of their own during the shows. Here are a few selects from their cell phone camera dispatches.
