Today in Jay Z and Beyoncé news, the power pair has released a trailer for their upcoming On The Run Tour, which kicks off on June 29. The nearly four minute video clip feels more movie trailer than promo short, and sees the couple unleash their inner Bonnie & Clyde—flashback to 2003—and wreak havoc. The clip boasts an impressive lineup of star-studded appearances (from Blake Lively, Sean Penn, and Jake Gyllenhaal, just to name a few), but we couldn’t take our eyes off Virgil Abloh’s signature Off-White camo jacket, which Jay Z is seen wearing at the 1:05 and 1:33 marks. It was only five months ago that the Chicago-born designer (who also happens to be Kanye West’s creative director) launched his Off-White streetwear label. As if his recent foray into womenswear and weekly contributions to Style Map weren’t enough to stir up buzz, a nod from music’s royal couple will undoubtedly put Abloh on quite a few radars.
When designer Erica Young learned that Beyoncé was a fan of her boudoir-inspired hosiery and bodysuit line, Erica M., she didn’t expect to hear it at a party, let alone from the star herself. The designer had previously sent the singer some of her very sexy, very Bey-worthy pieces at Beyoncé’s request. “I couldn’t have been more starstruck,” the designer told us by phone. “She said she was sorry she hadn’t been photographed in them, because she mainly wore them at home in front of her husband!”
Launched in 2012, the Jay-approved line is comprised of somewhat risqué hosiery and bodysuits, the designs including prints of garters, suspender belts, corsets, and lace (so you don’t have to wear them). Pieces you could imagine on Bey. In fact, it was Beyoncé’s suggestion that Young create all of her signature tights in nude (they are currently available in black). Young is now launching her Fall ’14 collection, which debuts exclusively here. Two new hosiery and bodysuit styles contain patterns such as hearts and leopard print and will be offered in a variety of colors including red and white.
“I focused on redefining the Erica M. woman,” said Young. “She is a working lady who likes to have something a little sexy on underneath to reveal at the end of a long day. She’s strong and walks with a swing in her step.” And now? “I want her to feel more empowered. The evocative pattern placements are designed to feel playful and rebellious, but still elegant.” And if an endorsement from Queen Bey herself isn’t enough, the designer is also working on a Beyoncé-requested catsuit. “It’s still in prototype stages, but it’s daring, to say the least.”
Finally, Queen Bey and Jay Z fans can get the best of both worlds. The chart-topping couple has confirmed via Beyoncé’s official website that they will go on tour together this summer. The On the Run tour will take place exclusively in the U.S., kicking off in Atlanta on June 15 and ending in San Francisco on August 5. New York-based superfans can catch the tour at MetLife stadium in New Jersey on July 11, but we’re crossing our fingers that more stops are announced along the way (like Barclays Center in Brooklyn, Jay Z’s hometown). Regardless, be prepared to wait in line. This is sure to be one of the summer’s hottest tickets—and not just because of Bey’s signature knockout wardrobe.
Despite the seemingly endless controversy surrounding Jay Z’s collection for Barneys, news broke this week that the pricey range, which includes black and gold clothes and accessories created in collaboration with houses like Lanvin and Balmain, raised a whopping $1 million for charity. Who knew that Big Pimpin’ and altruism could make such lovely bedfellows?
There’s another rapper falling into fashion’s favor. Today, WWD reports, Alexander Wang has teamed up with Dr. Dre to turn out a pair of limited-edition black and gold Beats by Dr. Dre headphones. It’s been a rap-filled year for fashion, what with Kanye West’s A.P.C. collab, A$AP Rocky’s cameo on the Hood by Air runway, and Jay Z’s Picasso Baby shoot, but for Wang, it would seem, it’s all about the D.R.E.
