Johnny Depp Joins the Bling Ring

Johnny Depp

Johnny Depp was photographed in Beijing on Monday wearing a diamond ring, thus confirming his engagement to actress Amber Heard. Apparently, this is news—no, not the fact that he’s engaged, the fact that he’s wearing a diamond engagement ring. Sure, it’s a little bit unorthodox, but goodness knows it looks better than the fratty beaded “man” jewelry that bros seem to favor these days. And despite the fact that Depp ambiguously called it a “chick’s ring,” his accouterment just might spur a whole new kind of marriage equality.

Amber Heard: Unexpectedly Chic?

Amber Heard in New York CityMemo to fashion-show organizers: Is it time to add Amber Heard to your front-row invite lists? The young actress is enjoying a new boost in popularity, thanks to her relationship with Johnny Depp, but the surprise is not the May-December romance (he’s 50, she’s 27), but how well she’s been holding her own against Mr. Depp’s famous stylishness. That redoubtable organ The Daily Mail dedicated a page today to her dog-walking style, and we’re inclined to agree that she looks great in an oversize coat (expressively tied à la Celine Fall ’13), skinny jeans, and booties. The last two may be young-actress standard-issue, but Heard manages to elevate them to a gamine place that Lou Doillon or Charlotte Gainsbourg would recognize. See you in February, then?

Kate Moss, Johnny Depp, Meryl Streep, and More Band Together for Paul McCartney

Kate Moss in Paul McCartney's new video

When we first heard that Kate Moss and Johnny Depp would reunite for Sir Paul McCartney’s music video for the single “Queenie Eye,” we knew it was going to be something special. But the flick, which features McCartney jamming on the piano while wearing Birkenstocks, surprised us with a slew of star-studded cameos. Meryl Streep, Jude Law, Lily Cole, and even Tom Ford are just a few of the familiar names that rocked out to McCartney’s new hit. Our only question is—where was our invite?

Reunited And It Feels So Good

It looks like the runway isn’t the only place seeing a nineties revival. Word on the street is that the decade’s most beautiful couple, Johnny Depp and Kate Moss, are reuniting—on screen, that is. The pair, who dated from 1994 to 1997, are rumored to be starring in Sir Paul McCartney’s new music video, “Queenie Eye,” which, sources say, will also feature Meryl Streep and Gary Barlow. No word yet on what the cast will be wearing, but we have our money on Stella.

On Our Radar: Lizzie Mandler

Lizzie Mandler

“I won’t design or create anything that I cannot make myself with my own two hands,” Los Angeles-based designer Lizzie Mandler said of her budding fine jewelry line, which she produces entirely in L.A. Inspired by the sentimentality of the exchange of jewelry, Mandler set out to create a collection that includes timeless, wearable pieces. “The actual materials in fine jewelry, the gold and diamonds, are forever. That’s why some of the oldest artifacts are jewelry,” she explained, adding that she has a habit of eschewing trends in favor of value and quality. “It’s an art that is meant to be representative of something, cherished, and passed down.”

Already a hit with fans like Kate Hudson, Arianne Phillips, and Johnny Depp, Lizzie Mandler Fine Jewelry indeed exudes a lasting quality. “I’m often inspired by the way in which jewelry lays on the body,” Mandler said, explaining that she pays careful attention to the way a piece complements or contrasts the human form for maximum wear. At the same time, she’s influenced by the seemingly simple. This season, Mandler drew upon an old Othello board game and worked duality into her designs, pairing white and black diamonds for an effect that’s both impactful and subtle. And as the designer continues to grow to meet demand, her take on basic pieces is tempered with some slightly edgier designs. However, Mandler assures, “they maintain their ability to be worn every day.”

Lizzie Mandler Fine Jewelry ranges from $150 to $2,850 and is available at and select international retailers.
