Kimye

What was on Style.com editors’ minds this week? For starters, we—along with everyone else—have been inundated with rumors about Kanye West and Kim Kardashian’s blowout wedding that took place across the pond yesterday. In honor of the big occasion, we shared five of the couple’s most stylish moments with our readers in Friday’s Look of the Day, and asked them to vote for their favorite. But the phenomenon that is Kimye isn’t our only current obsession. On Monday, our audience chose Chrissy Teigen, wearing a Fyodor Golan frock, as the best-dressed starlet on the Billboard Music Awards’ red carpet. In the following days, we asked you to cast your ballot on several emerging trends that ranged from cool metallics to traditional Middle Eastern keffiyeh scarves to stiletto sneakers.Click here for a slideshow of the looks that won your vote—and a few runners-up, for good measure.

Let’s Spend the Night Together: A Brief History of Celebrity Weddings Pre-Kimye

Audrey HepburnJudging by the tabloid fuss over Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s wedding weekend, you would think this is the first time two famous people have gotten hitched. But when the pair celebrate their nuptials in Florence—the original Kingdom of Dopeness—on Saturday night, they will be following in the footsteps of a wide range of celebrity couples before them. For instance, there was Sean Penn and Madonna’s 1985 oceanside Malibu wedding—attended by the likes of Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, and Cher—during which the groom scrawled FUCK OFF in the sand to deter airborne paparazzi. Going back further, there was Audrey Hepburn’s deeply elegant 1954 wedding to Mel Ferrer, for which she wore a custom Balmain tea-length gown. And who could forget David Beckham and Posh Spice’s nineties extravaganza, during which the latter donned a mini crown? Here, a look back at what happens when celebrities exchange vows.

Exclusive: Keeping Up With CR

CR Fashion Book

Fun fact: Carine Roitfeld’s favorite fairy tale is E.T. “It’s not a traditional fairy tale, but I love E.T. because it combines science fiction and fantasy with a touch of sadness. All of the best fairy tales have that—something dark with something light,” the editor told Style.com. Why on earth would we be speaking with Mlle. Roitfeld about extraterrestrial eighties flicks, you ask? Because “fairy tales” happens to be the concept behind the latest edition of CR Fashion Book, which hits newsstands on February 25.

Considering Roitfeld has facilitated a few fashion Cinderella stories since launching her zine in 2012, “fairy tales” seems a fitting theme for issue four. The editor’s choice to put Kim Kardashian on the cover of issue three helped convince the industry’s elite to (kind of) embrace the reality-TV star. And Kate Upton’s issue one cover made readers recognize that she could be an all-American bombshell and a high-fashion model, too. (For the record, a Brigitte Niedermair pointe shoe and Ukrainian ballet dancer Sergei Polunin covered issue two, but that’s not terribly pertinent here.) Roitfeld’s latest princess-in-the-making? Nineteen-year-old Gigi Hadid, whose Bruce Weber-lensed cover (right) debut exclusively here, alongside a second E.T. themed cover featuring Lindsey Wixson, shot by Sebastian Faena (left). “Gigi is next in the line of athletic, voluptuous babes who transition to high-fashion success,” said CR Fashion Book design director Stephen Gan. Not unlike Kim K., Hadid also happens to be on reality TV—she’s best known for her role on Bravo’s The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills (as a daughter, not a housewife). “It may be a cliché, but this is a girl who lights up a room. When I met her, I immediately sensed her star quality—it was only days later that I found out she was already a reality-TV star,” Gan continued. Did we ever in a million years think Roitfeld would fall for not one, but two reality darlings in the span of six months? No. But we’re inclined to trust her judgment. After all, she did introduce the world to Lara Stone.

Even Kimye Will Come Out for a Good Cause

Gelila Puck, Franca Sozzani, Kanye West, Kim Kardashian

Last night in L.A., some of the biggest names in fashion, music, film, and food came together at the inaugural gala and auction for Wolfgang and Gelila Puck’s Dream for Future Africa Foundation. Gelila, who was born in Ethiopia, founded the organization in 2010 in order to help the children of Africa. Indeed, it’s a good cause—one that drew everyone from Karolina Kurkova, Angela Lindvall, and Dita Von Teese to Quincy Jones, Smokey Robinson, and Reed Krakoff. “Tonight as I was getting ready, standing in my closet, this white gown called out to me,” the hostess said of her Deco dress. “I chose to wear white to represent our organic spirit in honor of our mission.”

As guests including Ali Larter, Maria Sharapova, Devon Aoki, and Rachel Zoe mingled, a newly engaged Kanye West and Kim Kardashian arrived just in time to greet the evening’s honoree, Vogue Italia editor in chief Franca Sozzani. “I doubt Franca knows this, but my first modeling job was with Vogue Italia,” said Amber Valletta while introducing Sozzani to the crowd. She later added that the editor changed the course of her career. Taking the stage to accept her accolade, Sozzani coined the night’s catchphrase: “Giving back is the new luxury.”
